Camper Van/Motor homes.

Unread post by suespud »

Well, weekend after next we are taking our 3 eldest grandsons (5,3,3) away for a few days in a Motor home.
It wasnt my idea!!!
OH thinks it will be fun........... :?
So he has hired a 6 berth luxury van...lol Not Cheap !!!
Just going up the Northumberland Coast (about an hour away) to three different sites.
Taking then to Alnwick Castle and Alnwick Gardens for the day on the way..then fish and chips in Beadnell before we bed them down.
He has bought sleeping bags for them, a pop up tent for them to play in...waterproof capes, buckets spades, wellies, fishing nets, etc etc etc....kites, cricket set, football nets, those bats that make a nosie, frisby, etc etc..... Gonna need a bigger van !!!!
Im sorting first aid kits, calpol, travel sickness tablets, sick bags, etc etc...
he is getting really excited, im getting really anxious...

It all sounds very organised. Looking after Grandchildren without Mummy & Daddy around sounds daunting but I am sure it will be a lovely adventure for all of you. At least with 4 (?) little boys you might get chance to sit and watch some of their activities.
One thing for sure you will be ready for a rest when you hand them back.
Have fun.

I sometimes get the urge to chuck it all in, sell up and buy a camper van and tour the world ... however Julie reminds me of what I am like in a caravan after a couple of hours ... caravans are my idea of holiday nightmare .. in fact last couple of times we were invited to a caravan I booked a hotel on one occasion and did a 4 hour round trip on the other .. anything but stay in a caravan.

However, I hope you have a great time ... just remember to pack the board games, jigsaws, Blackberry/Nexus/ipads, ereaders etc.

As long as you don't do what one American did in his camper van... he put it on cruise control and went round the back to make himself a coffee, then wondered why it crashed......

Have a wonderful weekend, sounds as if Mr Spud has got plenty to keep him busy...You are going to a lovely part of the country...A trip over to Holy Island would be exciting (watch the tides) as well.

Paul, Holy Island might well get a visit !!
I out my foot down though when OH said he wanted to do Farne Islands as well.... no way...far too rough for me, let alone the boys. I hate bobbing around the islands in a little boat, watching the Puffins and Gulls, ducking away from bird poop !!
I do love spotting the seals, though.

I love the Northumberland coast..wild and rugged.

When my children were that age, they loved the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle - although part of the attraction was that the TV series of 'The Famous Five' had just filmed there on location for Kirrin Castle.

They use an awful lot of water, relative to your water barrel. Much better to use the campsite facilities.

Not with two, three year olds and a five year old !!

We will visit the Life boat station, do the harbour, watch the fisherman.
Take them on the rocks, up to the "pirate hut" that I used to play in as a child, do the rock pools.

Come on, Howard, what could be nicer than waking up in the middle of the night, putting on your wellies and a still damp mac over your pyjamas and sloshing across a muddy field in the pouring rain to use a lavatory that hasn't been cleaned for 24 hours and shared with 150 other people with dubious hygeine standards?

Mmmm - OK, I see your point !!
