I enjoy this programme but being an old softie I found a segment of last nights viewing really upsetting.
A mother dunnock was seen feeding six nestlings. When she flew away to gather more food a weasel came into the nest and in less than 30 seconds took each chick.
The mother dunnock then returned to find an empty nest!
I was devasted for her wondering what she would think had happened to her babies.
I did say I was a softie!
No doubt the weasel had to feed its own brood and it's all part of natures food chain but I still find it hard to watch.

Oh Goodness, I am glad I didn't see that. Let's face it, Nature is not all sweetness and light, but I am not much good at accepting that fact.

Hi Sealion,

They showed the clip of the weasel attack on this evening’s program and as you say it doesn’t make easy viewing.

I along with my wife and daughter spent three hours wondering around this RSPB reserve on Sunday; and a pleasant three hours it was too. I can’t say we saw many birds; certainly not ones that we could positively identify but this pleasant walk, combined with the fantastic views were more than enough to keep us interested. We did stumble across a pond dweller (reserve warden/biologist) who invited us to participate in a little pond dipping...it wasn’t long before you could hear the...”Wow’s...have a look at this” emanating from around the pond... this did cause my wife and daughter a little embarrassment but I just didn’t care as I found it quite fascinating

If you ever get the chance to visit this RSPB site you won’t be disappointed and you might even like to combine it with a visit to the Osprey centre which is only a stone’s throw from the RSPB reserve.

But wasn't the little deer delightful OL? and how beautiful is the Kestral? I can't say I have ever seen close up pictures of the Kestral before. Good programme, but horrid pictures of the weasel stealing the chicks as you say.

Hi Jay

It’s difficult to pick one special moment from this smashing program but the Hen Harrier dropping prey to its mate “whilst in-flight” made for great in-flight entertainment.

What comes across to me is how important it is that we support the endeavours of organisations such as the RSPB... they do a terrific job.
