Who would you suggest are the men and women that have inspired you?

For the men - R G Mitchell, D Bader, Winston Churchill, Guy Gibson, Barnes Wallace, N Lauda to start with.
For the women - Baroness Thatcher, the Queen to start with.

I would add Leonard Cheshire and Dame Cicely Saunders to this list.

Only the fruit corners, dear lady, and the ones with the little chocolate balls. Sadly, made by a different family, so no free samplesHK phooey wrote:Shiny chap, I had no idea you were so fond of a yoghurt![]()

Re: Inspirational men and women
Most of the 'famous' names already listed have done remarkable things for this country but they haven't inspired me in a personal way.
The people I think of as inspirational are those we read about or see on television each week.
Members of our armed forces with horrendous injuries who are rebuilding their lives. Children facing years of life saving treatment. Families who have suffered family losses in tragic circumstances. All the people who raise so much money for charity and give so much if their time to help others.
These are the people who have gone through so much pain but their courage is remarkable.

My English teacher Miss Hoole....She was the best teacher in the world and the reason why I loved going to my Secondary School....She wrote the funniest pantomimes and found a part for every kid that wanted one....She listened and helped us all not only in English but any subject, she was never to busy...She was amazing....She could have been a successful businesswoman she could have been a brilliant politician, she could have done anything but chose, for a career, to teach us kids from the local council estate.
She also had the most enormous threepenny bits what you have ever seen.

A personal friend. Despite being terminally ill with cancer, still manages to help other people, raise lots of money for charity, she never, ever complains, is there for her family and friends and is always cheerful and really enjoying the life she has left.
Now to me, that is an inspirational person.
