So you have obvious eaten at 'Spoons with the odd millions of appreciative diners
Their faggots, mushy peas and mash is to die for![]()
One of the most successful pub chain currently on the UK fine eating eating emporium scene
Bon appetitehave only eaten in one twice and both times it was awful, so never again just can't chance it.. Will stick with the non-chain pubs

Re: How ridiculous is this
We tried a 'spoons for the first time earlier this year ... and it will also be the last time.
The selection of fresh breads Julie got for starter was a mixture of stale and poorly defrosted ... it went back.
My main course (apparently their famous sausage and mash) was absolutely tasteless, despite being drowned in salt. The mash was sloppy, the sausages had no flavour and the gravy was from a packet ... the whole thing tasted like it had been cooked in a microwave ... it went back. Julie got chicken goujons in sweet chilli sauce .. straight out of freezer and a bottle .. it went back.
I then argued over the amount of bill, made a nominal payment, left and went to a nearby chippy.

Re: How ridiculous is this
Fear not gfw. I have eaten in quite a few Wetherspoons and have had some lovely meals. They don't pretend to be high cuisine but at those prices you wouldn't expect them to be.
We are fortunate up here to have a lot of independent pubs and hotels and some great food to be had. Some are better than others but Wetherspoons close to us has never disappointed. This cannot always be said of some of the higher end restaurants and hotels who, for quality of food and service have left much to be desired despite the huge hole left in my pockets. Sorry to hear some have had poor meals but that can happen literally anywhere and at any price.
If we want a quick meal before going to the theatre we are quite happy to go into Wetherspoons.

If I had have had a pudding my best guess is that it would have contained powdered egg or some other substitute that at no point ever saw the back end of a chicken.gfwgfw wrote:Kendhni wrote:We tried a 'spoons for the first time earlier this year ... and it will also be the last time.

Re: How ridiculous is this
Ok regarding Wetherspoons - it seems like it varies from region to region, our local one is good value for money. Not high cuisine but good value for the price.
As regards pubs on the motorways - I take everyone's point but I think that if there is a group of people in a pub it will be far too easy for a passenger to entice a driver to have 'just the, one it's ok'. Just the one is not ok and can turn into 2 on many occasion, I just don't think pubs on motorways is a good idea - I'm human and I know others are too
As for selling alcohol in a supermarket in a service station - not the same. If someone is determined to drink then they will, I just think the relaxed atmosphere of a pub is too enticing.
