That is a good point if the contract was signed at you home and not his premises

If this EA bloke doesn't watch it, I'll take him to the golf club and give him a blasted good thrashing!

He did try and persuade us into the 'benefits' of getting a mortgage and buying the place we would like, and then sorting out what to do with our current 'home' at a different date. That is an absolute non-runner - the one thing I really don't need is another house.

He then tried to whitewash us into believing that by having a mortgage we would be better off! However, I looked briefly out of his office window and I could swear I saw a flock of piglets going overhead!

So, firstly we are going to go ahead simply because we fancy this other house - but if he thinks he is going to chuck us out at viewing times he is deluded.

Em I have to say we bought property over here but have never yet sold one. I found it odd that all the properties we looked at were shown to us by an estate agent and the owners were not in the house. I have a feeling that is the way it is over here and perhaps the way it is becoming in the UK.

The house next door is for sale and the estate agent does all the viewings so it is not unusual. As my neighbour says 'That's what I am paying him for'.
I do agree you should have the choice though.

I have recently sold my late fathers home and the estate agent did all the viewings , but that was because the house was more or less empty and no one living there. If it was my own house there's no way I would agree to being out while viewings took place, apart from anything else I wouldn't trust a stranger alone in my home, and what about our poor little dog ? I would be ok with waiting in another room but that's all.

I agree wholeheartedly - I feel that as the introduction of these demands was clearly made after we had signed the agreement that it is singularly underhanded and sneaky; and that I just don't like.

Em, did you give him your account number, like on a direct debit, or your card number? If the latter, I think you'd be able to go to your bank and tell them to refuse payment if the EA refuses to back down. I can't think he'll have done much work at this stage so his expenses will be negligible.

We gave him the number from a debit card - an account in which we don't keep much money, and as they have done measurements and photos I think that no matter what I should pay the administration fee, which isn't all that much.

We've sold various properties in the recent past, where either distance or memories precluded me from being involved in the viewings. As things stand at the moment I wouldn't object to being absent for the majority of our properties, but for our main home that's a different matter - and I'm going to stick to my guns on that as and when we have any viewings.

I don't want a mortgage, heck no! If it comes to pass that we don't get the house we have just found and would like to buy, then it is meant to be - and it will be plan B at some point in the future.

Now I feel a bit lacking in confidence over this whole thing, I most certainly do not like being told what to do! (OK, if it is something like a safety drill onboard that is different) It has made me feel that I don't want to move - but the other house is just so tempting.

Time will tell - and anyway, any moving would have to fit in inbetween cruises!

I meant the embossed number, rather than the account number, which is printed at the bottom of the card. As you are prepared to pay the fee for the work he has already done (which is right and proper), I'd leave it at that and tell him that he either accepts your terms or he loses the business.

hang on a mo....from what I read, Em has several houses and buys and sells property and is moving from her current large house to another house ,mortgage free? is that not the case then?

I give up. I thought Em was in the property game with several houses about the locale and was selling her large main house and buying another large house ,mortgage free but was concerned about leaving her house whilst the EA does the viewings?

so what you are saying HK , is that they are not houses but caravans? and that Em lived in one as her main abode prior to moving into the current house, which she is now thinking of selling, to move into another house? and that the other properties are not houses but Caravans?
