A mobile phone question
I'm in the market for a new mobile and have been looking at the HTC Desire C. Does anyone on here own one and what do you think of it.
My budget is £100. I don't necessarily need all the bells and whistles that seem to come as standard these days, just a good size clear screen that I can easily read without diving for the reading glasses. And things such as an easy to read clock and a decent camera, which I believe the Desire C has, although I believe the camera has no flash facility.
If there is a better alternative out there then I'm all ears. But I want something a sensible size that doesn't require a wheel barrow to cart it around.

Re: A mobile phone question
Hi Stephen
I recently purchased a new Smartphone
Namely Huawei
Computeractive rated it highly giving it a coverted "Best Buy" award
It cost me a tad under £100 from Vodaphone - it has a large screen and all the usual gizmos
The comprehensive users manual can be readily down loaded to your 'puter - a must
Pros - Plenty
Cons - None so far
I did buy a Kingston Micro SD which contains lots of data now including local bus/train times
A radio/MP3 that is surprisingly good - it has a camera which is quite good
Internet on the slow side, but works much faster on local buses, and Wethersoons
The personal "phones" are of good quality
The much beloved would like one now
Kindest regards
Graham

I have had an HTC Explorer (now discontinued I think) for about 18 months and have had no problems with it - great phone albeit the screen is a bit on the small side for my "chunky" fingers

Re: A mobile phone question
Stephen, I was looking at this phone at the weekend as we want to get a phone for our daughter when she starts high school in September. Tesco are giving the phone free if you sign up for a 24 month contract at £7.50 a month. They also have it on £10 and £12.50 a month contracts. I have an HTC Inspire which I love though I haven't really got a clue what I'm doing half the time.

I don't use a phone enough to warrant a contract so I am after a sim free phone, but thanks for the info Hk.

I can recommend the Samsung Galaxy Ace which sells for around £100 in Argos. I got this one for my daughter for Christmas and although a bit smaller than my all singing all dancing Samsung its got a lot of the same features.

Re: A mobile phone question
I will give another vote for the Samsung Galaxy Ace ... mine is over a year old now and worked flawlessly ... I got it on a contract for £7.50 that gives me 250 minutes talk time, plus 0,.5Gb internet plus 5000 texts each month.
Julie had an HTC Wildfire which she liked but after a couple of years the camera had stopped working and it was having a few lock ups.

Mine is the Galaxy Y which is even cheaper at under £74 for a sim free from Amazon. Even cheaper at £65 if you buy it from Vodaphone PAYG, I assume you could substitute your own sim if you don't like Vodaphone.hdean61 wrote:I can recommend the Samsung Galaxy Ace which sells for around £100 in Argos. It seems to do everything I want, the only problem is my clunky fingers on the screen pads, but I am slowly getting better.

Not necessarily - sometimes the phones, especially when they are cheap, are locked into the provider (even with sim free). If you want to use any provider then you will need an unlocked phone.towny44 wrote:I assume you could substitute your own sim if you don't like Vodaphone.

If they are locked you can get them unlocked for about a tenner if it works out cheaper that way.

Re: A mobile phone question
How can they be sim free if they are locked into a provider. That's the whole idea of them being sim free so that you can put any providers SIM card in!david63 wrote:Not necessarily - sometimes the phones, especially when they are cheap, are locked into the provider (even with sim free). Think I'll opt for the old Indian bongo drums..........sim free of course

I always get hubbies hand me downs when he gets a new phone. Just got his I'Phone 4S recently with a 12 month 3 contract. Get 200 minutes, 5000 texts and 500MB data for £6.90 a month.
