Ok, to be clear - not that you truly misunderstood Helen in my opinion (ooooh you are a little tinker when you get going) - I don't know where this notion of a caravan has come from.

I had a holiday in a caravan briefly when I was very young, I even won a caravan - but I never owned it.

So, qed, we are not talking caravans, and I wouldn't say that I am in the property game.

What I am thinking of selling is a house, and what we are aiming for is a bungalow. At the moment I am trying hard not to fall in love with the blasted bungalow, we'll just have to wait and see.

If it doesn't happen, then we'll try again in a couple of years time - but then we will go about it in a different manner.

Em, You sound a very glass half full type of person. Whether you like to admit it or not you have obviously already fallen in love with this bungalow and once that happens nothing will quite fit the bill.
You must be a very strong lady with a lot of patience if you can put things on hold for a couple of years.

Personally when viewing properties I'd prefer the current owners not to be around. I want to be able to pass comment on decor, possible problems etc and ask questions without the owners getting funny - which I'm sure they would, or when put on the spot with a question from the viewer, say something stupid !. When we sold our last house I made sure I was out (as it was it sold in two weeks luckily) and the agent rang me when they'd left. When one couple asked for a second viewing the agent suggested I was there, it was very informal and relaxed - and they bought it the same day.
I've never heard of an agent telling somebody not to be in their own home but I think it's perfectly reasonable for them to suggest they aren't around. We've sold three properties with the same agent, my brother two and mum one. If an agent has a good reputation and track record then whats the problem. If I wasn't comfortable with an estate agent then I wouldn't sign up with them in the first place.

Hi Andrea,

We originally planned that we wouldn't look at our final project until about 2016 at the earliest. In the meantime on dry days we often take a walk on a certain route, and have often commented that we wouldn't mind moving to one area on that route. Recently it came to our attention that one of the properties was on the market - and the subsequent investigation made us think that perhaps we were not going to be 100% content in that area afterall.

The EA we were talking to about all this then rang us and suggested that we might like to view this other property nearby but not in exactly the same area - and oooooops yes it has considerable potential.

Meanwhile, if it doesn't happen we can stick to our 2016 sort of start date - and in the intervening time we'll just have to keep busy.

Wistfully though - it would be lovely.

Oh dear Em - read the small print and run like hell. I left hubby to chose our last estate agent (he went for the cheapest!) - he was totally useless and the biggest snob ever. In the end we called him 'Mr I live in Bath'. We were selling a property in Bristol and any question the proposed buyers asked were answered 'I don't know, cos I live in Bath! - Luckily we sold before I lost my patience with him as he had been selling property in Bristol for years and wouldnt you just research your area where you work duh! He also encouraged the prospective buyers to knock down walls which were load bearing etc etc etc.
Some of our viewings were carried out by the estate agent on his own but luckily our cat made sure they didnt stay long!

I think we've decided to wait and see what happens for a little while - and then we will probably call a stop to this project and get on with just being happy.

Then we can happily forget about it until we go for Plan B in about 2016 - and that will (rest assured) cause minimal worry and problems.
