Train tickets
Just booked our train journey to Southampton for September cruise. This is where I start getting extra excited. Can hardly wait for 2nd/3rd September.

Re: Train tickets
I love to travel to Southampton by train - the holiday starts once we're on the train - far better than worrying about traffic jams..
Unfortunately OH doesn't agree and since he's driving, I don't argue!

Re: Train tickets
Is that on service trains, or one of the specials that take you right to QE terminal?

Re: Train tickets
We travel down day before on schedule train service and stay overnight. Hubby is disabled (walks with a stick) and prefers to leave car in garage at home. We push the boat out (if you will excuse the pun) and travel down 1st class for the extra seat/leg room. It is also easier in a 1st class carriage for hubby to get up and move about when necessary. He has a condition which makes it difficult for him to sit or stand in one position too long.

I didn't know trains ran right to the terminal! I suppose that's only useful if you're sailing from the QE terminal though. Not so ancient mariner wrote:Is that on service trains, or one of the specials that take you right to QE terminal?

Re: Train tickets
hmm, just tried to get times for a train from Bristol to the docks - apparently there isn't one. Google Maps doesn't seem to show any passenger lines in the docks area, the Central station doesn't look like too long a walk away from the major terminals though.

Alan, I think this is something that is linked to a specific TA and just for their customers, I know I've read about it somewhere, just can't remember where.

Re: Train tickets
They can be a fair walk with luggage but a very short taxi journey. The train line still goes to the QE terminal but apart from car imports and exports is only used occasionally for special passenger excursions. Plenty of advice online including this:Silver_Shiney wrote:hmm, just tried to get times for a train from Bristol to the docks - apparently there isn't one. Wasn't there an incident a year or so ago when one of these "special" trains was delayed and the ship sailed without them?Dancing Queen wrote:Alan, I think this is something that is linked to a specific TA and just for their customers, I know I've read about it somewhere, just can't remember where.

Re: Train tickets
There was David, I think it was carrying passengers for Aurora and Oriana, one of the ships waited and the other sailed.
Ooops I didn't think my first reply had posted.

Yes, I think the train broke down twice. I think it was only going to Southampton Central.Dancing Queen wrote:There was David, I think it was carrying passengers for Aurora and Oriana, one of the ships waited and the other sailed.
