Summer School Reunion2013

Unread post by gfwgfw »

Just the surviving few met up for our Summer school reunion – now all nearing our increased OAP twenty five pence (less tax) entitlement :o

The subject turned, as they do to the good old days

Our personal school tablet i.e. a black slate and chalk was spoken about with affection

We all unanimously agreed that the new fangled tablets are a march beyond our then instrument of learning

Talk then turned to what next, as they’re undoubtedly will be

Hey ho . . . what is your vision that will make today’s gizmos as dated as the slate and chalk :?:

We will all be required to be implanted with a chip that contains, amongst other things: our passport; our driving licence; our medical history; our bank account.

This, I believe, will initially be promoted as a common-sense measure - after all, if you only have to scan your wrist to pay for your shopping, you won't be carrying cash (which will be obsolete) so there will be no cause to mug you for your wallet; if you are found collapsed and incoherent, a quick scan will reveal your medical history and aid treatment.

This is the specification for the most incredible, sophisticated planning and communications tool yet invented:

It's portable - so light don't even notice it your pocket or brief case. Its life is more than one-hundred times greater than the current best re-chargeable power-packs.

It is extremely durable - if dropped from 50 feet onto concrete it'll be good as new within a minute or two at the longest.

It's so intuitive that anyone can use it immediately without training. You can use it on a plane - even during take off. It uses a remarkable data input method as fast as an experienced qwerty keyboard operator, and yet requires no keyboard skills.

It handles graphics as easily as text and can even handle 3-D modelling and complicated calculations.

It is compatible with any paper output, even a bus-ticket or a table napkin, and is universally adaptable to any reader format. It is completely wireless, already available all over the world, thanks to a distribution network greater than Microsoft's, and comes in hundreds of model variants to suit all styles and egos - you can even get gold-plated ones.

It costs a fraction of a penny per day over its lifetime, and if you lose it, its inherent unbreakable security will leave no trace of confidential files or personal history. Replacements are no problem because you can afford to keep a couple spare with you all the time.

It is a:

Dear Alan,

This is so unlikely to happen it's untrue. If the bleeding heart liberals in this country of ours suggest that it's an infringement of our civil rights to carry a simple identity card then a micro chipped Briton isn't going to happen this side of Hull City winning the Premier League.

Ho Ho Ho.

where do you get your pencils from, Peter? If I drop mine from more than a couple of feet, the "lead" inside shatters and renders it useless!

Hi Rob

Missed you, where've you been, mate?

I hope it doesn't happen, but I have a feeling it will, whether we want it to or not. Time will tell.

Kind regards
Alan

By way of a desert . . .

Sadly our numbers have diminished x three since michaelmas

However it is still worth the effort to get our trusty walking canes fueled up for the short journey to our Summer get together

Again, we found ourselves reminiscing

We travelled the long road of best inventions "thread"

Strangely we all agreed the most significant invention by a country mile

Was the very simple, but moving invention

Was the simplistic, unsophisticated

Wheel

Alan

I have had a very long but enjoyable day, but thank you for your kindly clarification :D

Now . . .

Pop my ferrets to bed

Then a wee dram  and take to my wee cot to dream about the glorious yesteryears
