Prince Charles

Unread post by Admiral of the Humber »

Dear Forumeers,

Though there are some that I have less than no time for (Edward and Andrew to name but two) I would class myself as a Royalist.

Prince Charles isn't the Royal I admire the most, that is definitely Liz 2, but I have always had a bit of a soft spot for him because I think his heart is in the right place, he is a charming eccentric, and because of him I learnt the word carbuncle.

Today his stock rose in my opinion. His Duchy Original Pale ale was on special offer in Waitrose...and if the third and fourth bottles are as good as the first and second...I shall retire to Bedfordshire a mellow chap.

God save the Queen...and a couple of her children at least!

Regards

I couldn't say I admire him at all, a self indulgent p**t imo  many won't agree with me but he ruined Diana's life, he denied his two sons their mother and why so he could carry on his long time affair with Camilla, how can you have a soft spot for him :?

I don't even blame Camilla ( as many do ) if she was what PC wanted then he should have married her when they were both single and free to do so instead of ruining the life of someone who actually was in love with him but sadly all he wanted was an heir :?

Dear Jo,

I find it very easy to have a soft spot for him. I don't think Diana was the saint people make out. To my mind she was a bit of a dim bimbo . Charles is a bit of a pratt but his two sons have turned into decent fellows and even the most hardened Dianaite must accept that he has had a hand in that.

I sense the blue touchpaper has been lit and it is perhaps time to retire to the ironing.

I agree whole heartedly Rob that PC has had a hand in how his sons have turned out and I will certainly give him credit for that and no, probably Diana wasn't the saint some would say she is ( I'm not one of them ) but I do believe he was responsible for the course her life took.

No blue touchpaper lit here just my opinion and just for the record I actually quite like Camilla, I think she has taken a lot of flak when it actually takes two to tango :D

Dear Jo,

I like Camilla too.

I'm glad you used the "two to tango" line...I thought it.

Was it Charles' fault that he and Camilla didnt get together before he married Diana? Was it not that he was 'influenced' by the institution? Ie, had to do as he was told at the time? If so, the marriage was probably doomed from the start and, although I do admire the Queen, feel that she must have been part of the influencing. Maybe he was a bit weak in following orders but he was brought up like that. Times changed and divorce became more the norm, and while not proper, he's not the first to have an affair is he?

I'm not convinced Diana was in love with I'm anyway (yes I know I don't know them but if anyone else can have an opinion....). He was the Prince of Wales, a tad tempting. And to blame Charles for her dying? That's stretching it too far. It was an accident which could have happened at anytime, photographers chased her while she was married to Charles too.

I think he's had a very bad press in the past. Is he a prat? Well very different to most people, a tad eccentric but I think he seems like a nice guy. And Camilla seems nice too. While I felt sorry for Diana, im glad Charles and Camilla found happiness.

Hey Robbie

I’m an expert on dim bimbos (I went out with enough of them  ) and I certainly wouldn’t put Diana in that category...this young lady was manipulated into believing the fairy story.... then the Rat went and broke her heart.

I will grant you this ...Both of his sons? seem to have a genuine fondness for their father which must say something about him.

Charles, The Prince of Wales wrote a very good book once...... The Old Man of Lochnagar and a jolly good read it was to....There are also many young people that have benefitted from his charity..The Prince's Trust.....The man is a jolly good egg and will make a super King when Her Majesty finally pops her clogs.

Charles will be a pensioner come November....I wonder if he will get a bus pass and Winter Fuel Allowance....He is entitled to them under the present rules.....ain't he :?:

Of course anyone can have an opinion just as I've said what mine is, I didn't blame Charles for Diana's death I said he was responsible for the course her life took, I agree an accident can happen at anytime, anywhere, but had they still been in a marriage the circumstances would have been different.

He certainly wasn't the first to have an affair and I doubt he will be the last but I do believe Diana was in love with him when she married him, not sure about a tad tempting so my opinion remains the same but that is all it is my opinion just as others will have theirs.

I confess to misreading the bit about causing Diana's death, maybe I'm the dim blonde lol.

It's hard to know what goes on in other peoples lives, especially when you're going on newspaper reports. And maybe one could say its not our business but when people are in public life it's difficult not to form an opinion.

I actually think all 3 people in the 'triangle' were nice people (nothing is black and white), but I still think Charlie boy got a bad press.

I think Diana was excited by the prospect of being married to the future king. They probably loved each other but in reality were they really compatible? He was interested in horses, the outdoors, architecture, hunting and shooting. It soon became clear that Diana was more interested in dancing, fashion, shopping and the City life. Personality-wise they were poles apart. Their marriage was doomed to failure and as they drifted apart their attentions wandered elsewhere. Diana was not the shy, coy Di she liked to portray but was actually quite manipulative and effective in gaining the public's sympathy. Charles for his part was clumsy and ill advised in his handling of the situation. And the whole drama was played out in public. Not good.

I must say the two princes are a credit to him and to the Royal family. And after one or two misgivings I feel Camilla has admirably slipped into her role as Charles' wife and comes across as quite a character.

It's all about opinion though since we only know what is reported and what we see. The truth may never be known.

Hi OBF

I’m sure Diana was excited at the prospect of being married to the future king but any suggestion that he loved her quickly diminished when he came out with his ”whatever love is” comment. Well let’s face it he could hardly say anything else when his adulteress lover was listening to his every word.

The Rat impregnated this naive young girl for no other purpose other than to produce an heir to the throne...and what makes this more sickening is the fact that most of the royals were party to it.

If Diane was my daughter Charles would be having to retrieve his balls from the tower for the way he used this young lady ...make no mistake about that.

As for her personality traits...I would agree, but when you’ve been humiliated to the degree she was its no wonder she used the only tool she had to get back at the RAT.

Keith, do I take it you're not very keen on him? :D

Whilst I do not fully agree with you I respect you have your opinion. I tend not to be as sympathetic towards Diana as most others. As I said, 'The truth may never be known'.

As you will have noticed I try not to pre-judge anyone until I’ve had the chance to look into their eyes  hence the reason I’ve kept my comments about Charles within the t&c’s of this forum.

God save the Queen.

Keith...

I would agree with your take on Charles and the Royals using Diana to produce an heir....It wouldn't have been the first time, remember 'enery 8 and if they had stopped at one son (William) then your theory would have been dead right.....but they didn't, they had a second son (Harry) so there must have been something else there.

Just a thought.
