Silly excuses
Do people really think that others are so stupid they would believe these excuses? I take that back ... I know one section of my wider family circle come out with such things and get offended when the more intelligent do not believe them.
So what is the daftest excuse you have made up or heard?

Re: Todays saddos
Once or twice - but no more than that - I have agreed to become involved in a project or event which was subsequently changed or altered to become an event or project which I either had no 'heart' for, or which I did not wish to become identified with. In that sort of situation I have made excuses for stopping my involvement - but the excuses which were proffered were done to try not to hurt the feelings of other people. A simple and blameless sin I hope.
However, I have heard other people making some howling excuses - including 'my leg's got a bone in it'. At the time that this excuse was given to me (by someone who was just blasted lazy but wanted sympathy/empathy etc) I knew beyond any doubt that the person was trying to say that he/she was unable to participate in something because he/she had a painful or non-functioning limb - but yet that person was more than able to dash around shops and a golf course too when it suited him/her.
Unfortunately when the 'lame' excuse was given, I just couldn't help but advise the person involved that the lack of a bone was not in his/her leg, as I felt that the lack of bone was in the spinal region!
Oooops, maybe not pc - but sharp, honest and to the point.

Ken, I am giving you the benefit of the doubt here and hope you have posted this in the interest of world peace and not just 'for effect'. I once went out with a chap who cancelled our date at the last minute as his sister had been hit by a car and was undergoing an operation at the Royal Free in London. Imagine my surprise when I went out that night anyway with some friends and saw the git snogging a bimbo at the bar! Of course I chucked my pint of snakebite and black at him, some of which unfortunately hit a rather large, skinhead girl who then gave me a black eye

O knew of a bloke who was invariably 5-10 minutes getting in to work. His excuse was that his car wouldn't start.

then there was the girl who worked in my office who had a history of taking time off because her grandmother had died.
