Sorry for my delayed response...problems with my wife and daughter having overrun their allotted time on our computer.

It’s not unusual for horses to be declared then withdrawn any time prior to the scheduled race. This can be due to a multitude of reasons and I dare say the trainer of Ocean Tempest had good reason.

There were several withdrawals at Ascot today, mostly due to ground conditions.

As for a little flutter, I’ll be having a small ew wager on “Bertiewhittle” 5.25 Ascot tomorrow.

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought we were going to be talking about water heaters...It turns out I was wrong and we are talking about the gee gee's

I have to admit that I have never been inside a betting shop and if I did go in one I would not have a 'scooby doo' what to do....My only experience of racing is..I was, many years ago, a jockey on a carrot crunching equine at the Donkey Derby at Butlin's, Clacton, in the Tufty Club Classic..I was about eight....the flippin' thing wouldn't work for ages and all the other competitors were half way around the course before I could kick start my mount into action....When I did get it going I fell off twice and had to be led round the rest of the course by a Redcoat.....I finished last out of six and a full five minutes after everyone else....I did however get a morale boosting clap and cheer from my fellow holiday makers.....and five points for second sitting for being a good sport.

Needless to say I have not had any interest in 'orse racing since......

My only other involvement in horse racing has been at fund raising 'Race Nights' where I have run them and also enjoyed them.....Why does number 4 never win

At the very least they should have held a stewards inquiry...It sounds to me like someone got to your carrot crunching donkey before the off...or you could have been riding number 4 which as you know never wins

Onelife - 'I would agree with you...it’s only when you stand close to these thoroughbreds do you start to appreciate the magnificent animals they are'.

They're alright from a distance. One end bites and the other end passes wind. The bit in between just smells horsey. Sit on them and it's like sitting on blancmange. I can't say they are my favourite creature.

And when you are out walking in the countryside why do they always have to stand by the stile and then lean on you when you're trying to clamber over it? What's that about?

Hi Onelife , Yes it seems Ocean tempest didn't make it through ! So I am going to have a small flutter on Kiyoshi 2.30 & Contributor at 15.05

Two good selections both of which should give you a good run for your money..Good luck
I’m sticking with Bertiewhittle 5:35 however I’m going to have a saver on “loving Sprit” in the same race.

One thing is for sure all the horse’s entered at Ascot will be primed to do their best which isn’t always the case on normal race days...especially so in handicaps.

As for your other selection “Contributor” that also ran a gallant race finishing just outside the placings.

Yes I am over the moon with Kiyoshi !! I have been dancing round the house to top it all ,even though I didn't win in the 15.03 with Contributor my OH had placed a bet on Hill star - so we are both celebrating tonight !!

Yes! Didn’t she run well...Performance of the week thus far if you ask me, especially considering where she was drawn?

No luck in the 5:35 but tomorrows another day and if everything goes to plan I’ll be finishing with a flourish...well let’s hope so as I’ll be placing my biggest bet of the week on “Dandy Boy” 3:45 Ascot.

Do you have any “good things” for tomorrow as I’m down to my last twenty pence

Tomorrow is indeed another day. I'm not feeling any particularly good vibes about tomorrow yet - but I have been on the wine !!!
I may have a go with Friendship 2.30 or Flying Author as Kirsty Milczarek is the Jockey and she has ridden Ocean Tempest a few times before !
Think I will have a fresh look in the morning

Well that was an Ascot to remember, one that had every emotion going...the week started with a minutes silence in honour of the great Sir Henry Cecil. A true gentleman of racing and a brilliant trainer of horses....it was fitting that his life should have ended knowing he’d trained the greatest middle distant horse ever to set foot on a race track...The mighty “Frankel”.

Her Majesty the Queen’s horse “Estimate” victory in the Gold Cup will go down in history as will the performance of her bloodstock advisor John Warren who got a wee bit excited at the sight of the Queen’s horse striding to victory.

Great performances from several horses (not the one’s I backed) and jubilant celebrations from the owner’s, trainers and hard working stable staff.

Sadly joy instantly turned to despair for the connections of Thomas Chippendale which crossed the finishing line in first place, only then to collapse and die from a suspected heart attack. Thankfully these tragedies are few and far between but no easier to bear for all who witnessed it.

As for my tipping performance... well the less said about that the better...I backed 14 horses over the five days with only one obliging... but whatever you do please don’t tell my wife I’ve said that...squeak! Squeak!
