I know you will probably think I'm a bit mad but I can't tell you how pleased I was this morning to see and hear the bees in huge numbers invading the garden and buzzing around the cotoneaster and hardy geranium in particular. With all the anxiety about problems with bees due to the poor winter conditions it is good to hear the buzzing although I must admit I will be very careful whilst cutting the lawn today - don't fancy being stung.

Has anyone else had a "simple pleasure" moment today?

No, I don't think that's mad at all Jan - quite the reverse. Now, if you said you had enjoyed being stung on the bum by a wasp, then that would be mad !!

Being stuck at work with my car off for a service, I am a bit short on simple pleasures today but I did take delight in wandering round the garden at 7ish and enjoying the quiet, clear, cool, sunlit morning

I think it is always the simple pleasures that make us smile Jan.

I was up very early this morning so it was lovely to see the sun come out ( after a very cold, wet and windy weekend )

I sit in the conservatory most early mornings, just me and the birds, it is my favourite time of the day, I love watching them feeding from the bird feeders and swooping down to eat the bread I've thrown on the lawn, just a simple pleasure but it always makes me smile

Funnily enough Jan I'd just pointed out to Trish that our cotoneaster is completely covered in bees too. All very busy too.

Just sitting by the water's edge and seeing little birds flitting about in and around the hedgerows and bushes.

I also enjoy a good butterfly or two......but there haven't been too many of those in evidence so far this year

Yep, large whites, small whites, green-veined whites, wood whites....they all have their place. I'm not that keen on cabbages anyway !

On the way to the our cinema and Asda we pass a lake. There are a pair of swans that nest there. I have only seen one on the water lately. I'm hoping the other is sitting on some eggs and will get to see the babies growing up soon.

I watched the sun rise when flying back into Gatwick. It was bright red and a stunning sight. We were also delighted to arrived back to a very warm, sunny day.

I've just been to B&Q with my husband ( wow !! he really knows how to treat a girl )

We wandered out into the garden centre and right in the centre on one of the stands of plants was a birds nest with 3 chicks in it ( thrushes, no sign of mum but a staff member told us she is usually there ) there was a sign asking people not to disturb them, how's that for "smile value"

It is nice to hear of a big store that puts nature first.

Something that always takes my breath away is a beautiful sunset.

Only jesting, Andrea. I was particularly pleased to hear it was a nest of thrushes as they are a species in decline at the moment.......and they eat my snails so the more the merrier !

Very true about the thrush we haven't seen them in the garden for the last 2/3 years but have had one coming to feed for the last couple of months now.

I've got a semi-tame blackbird. Every morning he sits on the doorstep looking up at the door waiting to be fed. He now takes raisins and mealworms from my hand. If I sit in the conservatory he comes and looks through the window and as soon as I move he is there at the back door again. I do spoil the birds but I get such a lot of pleasure from watching them.
