Prof Mick Aston

Unread post by Boris+ »

I was sad to learn this morning of the death of Prof Mick Aston (most people knew him from Time Team). He brought so much enjoyment to so many people, and he brought his love of archaeology into so many homes.

I felt that it was a shame that Sir Tony Robinson and Prof Aston (not forgetting Phil Harding of course) didn't do the programme for the exhumation of Richard lll - they were a wonderful team.

Totally agree, Em. The last series of Time Team wasn't the same without his enthusiasm. According to BBC Breakfast this morning, there is some uncertainty as to the cause of death although maybe that has been cleared up by now.

Wouldn't it be fitting if he was dug up in 500 years as part of a Time Team revival show !

Apparently he left the program because (in his words) it had been 'dumbed down' "There is a lot less archaeological content and a lot more pratting about"

Unfortunately this seems to be a common practice with the content of TV programs these days..

To quote an old Jam lyric: "The public gets what the public wants......"

Sad to hear about Prof.Mick and totally agree with you Boris. Time Team was one of my favourite programmes and it was never the same without the old crew. Did you watch Time Team America? Any thoughts on that? I couldn't air mine on the forum!
