The "garden doctor" is suffering a plague of rabbits ! Our allotment site is over-run with the little blighters. We are pretty well fenced off but the little ones still get in and some other plots are being decimated.

There is always something - last year we had cold, wet, slugs and mice which put paid to most everything. This year was a late start because of the cold spring but since then, moderate rainfall and average temperatures have made for excellent growing conditions but now the rabbits.....

I suppose that's the joy of gardening in the British climate. You know what's next - potato blight !

Sorry BFG - I am not a rose man so I couldn't help with your question but I hoped someone might have been able to satisfy you ! Hope you have your ground cover sorted by now

You have my heartfelt sympathy. We have (fingers crossed) just 'won the war' with 'thugs bunny' - and I am now quite pleased. We used plastic coated wire mesh fencing (only about 18" high) - the bunnies got the hint after one or two extra invasions, as yet they haven't found out where the gaps are.

However - with much glee - along the way from us a man is having a new house built, and he is a pain in the thingy - the bunnies have taken up residence on his building site!

Yesterday at B&Q, we bought a Fiskar W52 weed puller for approximately £29 less 10% seniors discount. It is an excellent tool and well worth the money we spent as our lawn is made up of 70% broad leaf weeds and 30% lawn. I assume now that we will have to fill in all the holes that are left with soil and lawn seed but this thing has certainly made one of the jobs I hate so much easier.

Sounds like a deal! Don't forget to water your repaired patches if it stays dry Kenmo, or you will end up with a lawn looking like it has played host to a pack of incontinent female labradors !

We are really lucky and don't have many weeds in our lawns - but I spotted a couple, and had a go with the gel weed stuff 'Round Up'. It's quick and easy to use (always wash hands thoroughly after using a weedkiller obviously).

Ok, it works, but then you have nasty small dead patches in the lawn - I think that Mo's way of pulling up the weeds is perhaps less unsightly.

A really nice gentle rain here in middle England today. It's what the Irish would call a "soft day". Absolutely perfect for the garden - a working day for me, light rain for a prolonged period, no wind to damage the weighted down foliage and relatively warm....perfect growing weather.

Believe it or not, we have had a fairly dry spell here and the seedlings and newly planted stuff really needed it. Only downside, - it will encourage more slugs and smails out of hiding.

Looks like I shall be out with a torch and a bucket again tonight !

Where oh where do the slugs come from.

They really appreciate the
cabbages and runner beans this year and trying to keep them away is an endless task.

It is incredible how the warmth and fine rain has made things shoot up.

Glad to report we have eaten the first Tomato from the Shirley plant! We shared the little fellow and now cant wait for the others to ripen!!!

Jay, Ours are doing good but still very green. That first taste is very special.
We are not eating until later and I am creating a problem . I have pre cooked the freshly dug potatoes and keep eating them. At this rate I will have to do some more!!.

I search out the snails in the garden then give them a lesson in crossing the road (ie I chuck them into the middle). Unfortunately none of them ever make it to the other side in 1 piece! Don't they make a satisfying crunch noise when they get squashed?

It won't make a crunching sound but will that work for slugs.,it is a brill idea teaching them to cross the road. ( with a little bit of help ).

Snap! I'm out most nights at about 10:30 with my torch, collecting them up before flinging the little blighters down the road
