Watchdog to investigate insurers

It is probably easy to say that most people are savvy these days and check their renewal price but I am not so sure of this ... I think many (majority?) still just let the renewal go through and pay whatever it asks for ... especially if it says something along the lines of "We have searched the market and your existing insurer is still competitive" etc. etc.

This year my car insurance renewal was more than 50% higher than the quote I ran through on their website ... naturally they price matched, with barely an apology or anything. However on the other hand, if the insurance companies are told to reel this in then the one thing that is guaranteed is that premiums will rise for those of us that have been checking renewal prices.

Just had contents renewal through from The AA £87 did a quick check online same company £35 rang them and they would price match it but when they ran through the T&C they introduced a compolsery £100 and a voluntary £100 access when I questioned this they said all contents insurance now include this to keep prices down I said no thanks.
Rang my bank they did the same deal but with no access
But as you say how many just carry on paying
