SMOKING!!! again

Unread post by Ray Scully »

Over time there has been a plethora of posts on this topic, however this is a different slant on the same 'problem'

Friends have recently got new neighbours, nice people no problems, however with the recent nice weather they say that when outside they are plagued by smoke drifting across from the new people next door.. I suppose this puts into perspective the slight problems one can experience on a cruise ship.

It's a difficult one. The neighbours are in the fresh air, in their own garden, so I'm not sure anything can be done about that. I have noticed in my local indian restaurant people who go outside to have a cigarette stand close to the door and last night when I left I had to walk through a cloud of smoke. On many occasions the entrance hall has stank of smoke. I understand that smokers should stand a certain distance from a building, but who enforces that?

Are the last three posts directed at me or MO? Remember I am a very sensitive person.

Ray ... I am unpaid and the subject matter of your Topic is not deemed to be Cruise Specific.

I apologise for being sarcastic although that was not my intention ... there is a limit of five emoticons so I was unable to add a ' wink ' without editing the text.

My reply was agreeing with Ann and not directed at anyone, you know me Ray .. as a smoker I don't get involved in the smoking threads not worth the hassle and abuse, as long as I smoke where I'm "allowed" to then I don't have to justify that to anyone

Do your friends have a really small garden ie the size of a balcony on a cruise ship? If not, I suggest they are being oversensitive!

I'm with Ray on this one. Our gardens are very small and the lad next door burnt stuff (not just tobacco, the herbal equivalent of the old Colombian vitamin pills.....). We'd have to go back indoors and close the back of the house up to escape it.

As Mo rightly says, it's difficult as the smokers are in their own garden. Yet it stops the neighbours from enjoying theirs.

That all depends on whether you are a smoker or not. To a non-smoker it's like having a bonfire next door but a smoker probably wouldn't even notice it.

Have to agree, our foul neighbours have had the barbecue out over the last few nights and wafting smoke is totally destroying our enjoyment of the garden ... and the neighbours on the other side do nothing but **** all day ... not forgetting that foul breed, the RAC, who encourage people to pollute my atmosphere

Smokers can't win they are told not to smoke indoors because of children and rightly so leave the poor beggars alone its there garden it's there habit
Shall we ban BBQ's as well I am sure more damage is done by cars and lorries than someone having a fag in the garden

Not all Non Smokers, I am a non smoker, and other people smoking never bothers me.

We have a small garden, but with a 6ft high fence between us and next door, no comparison to the smoke of a bonfire or the smoke and smell of a barbecue. Although I have to admit I like the smell of a barbecue, but it always makes me feel hungry.

Just off to light the BBQ and cook a chicken (if I can catch it). If the neighbours complain, they can have a leg or something
