I'm watching this too but he sounds as if he is saying 'rocket' when he serves, and Djokovic is doing it as well

Well done Andy Murray, great win congratulations
Bet they are proud and celebrating in Dunblane where my Daughter In Laws parents come from and most of her family still live.

Really, really excellent tennis match, every gaspy, shouty, cheery minute of it.
Well done Andy, and well done Novak for your gracious acceptance of defeat. Both men played at their very best, but Andy just pipped Novak at the end.

Well done that man! He deserves his win, and I wish him happiness and joy from it - I think it's just lovely.

An excellent tennis match - although I fear that had AM not won the third set then he would have lost the match.

No need to fear, because history will show he did win the third set and the matchdavid63 wrote:An excellent tennis match - although I fear that had AM not won the third set then he would have lost the match.

Re: Come on Andy Murray
Well done Andy!! We've cracked open a couple of bottles of bubbly to celebrate this evening and like everyone else in Scotland willed you to win today.
This family must have gone to hell and back after the massacre at Dunblane Primary School and they have never ever played on that, being part of that close community who suffered so much. Good on you Andy, your mum, dad and Jamie. You deserve every minute of this success. Scotland and Britain are SO proud of you.

Come the new year - quite possibly - and also a strong contender for sports personality of the year I should think.

I can understand Scotland and Dunblane in particular being over the moon about Murray's win, but the rest of you, calm down! Firstly it's only tennis and secondly he's not English!

You're right HKPhooey. I don't think England is that great anymore and we're usually pretty poor so any chance people get to feel better and celebrate something, they will jump on the bandwagon, even though Andy Murray is not English. Kind of reflected glory. Don't shoot me !

He's British - I don't care if he's English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish (NI) - it was a fantastic, emotion wrenching match to watch and it was an amazing achievement - look at the crowds on the Hill at Wimbledon - there can't have been a foot to spare. I think it's certainly worth a celebration!

Watching him was a sheer delight, whereas listening to him sends me to sleep.

I, on the other hand, find him quite difficult to watch at times.

Like a lot of people in the public eye, Andy Murray is probably really careful about what he says and how he comes across so that some smart pants journalist doesn't get mileage out of it.

No he's British the same as I am. I was born in England, my husband in Scotland and one of my daughters in Germany ( in a British Military Hospital) but we are all first and foremost British.HK phooey wrote:Firstly it's only tennis and secondly he's not English!

Susan, your post has made me come over all teary eyed and sentimental about what being British is all about. You are right of course, and if England ever win a major tournament I'm sure that the flags will be flying and the champagne corks popping over the border in bonnie Scotland...or not.Lazysusan wrote:No he's British the same as I am.
