Girls day out in York
An early night for me as I will need all my stamina for when I meet Sue in York tomorrow, it will be lovely to catch up again ( long overdue ) over a bottle of "Fizz" or two and of course do a bit of retail therapy if we are still standing !!!
I never thought that we would ever be more than cyber friends but with a bit of planning we manage to meet up as often as we can and have now become lifelong genuine friends, of course not all cyber friends turn out to be genuine but I'm pleased to say this one has, as have one or two others.
So have you met anyone from the forum ( other than on a cruise ) and do you keep in touch/meet.

Jo,
That sounds great - what a lovely place for a day out! Hope you get to Bettys!
I keep in touch with people I have met onboard, and pass extremely close to one particular forum member a couple of times a year, but that's it.
Have a lovely day.

Do you mean you need the stamina to keep up with me regarding the fizzy stuff...Dancing Queen wrote:An early night for me as I will need all my stamina for when I meet Sue in York tomorrow, it will be lovely to catch up again ( long overdue ) over a bottle of "Fizz" or two and of course do a bit of retail therapy if we are still standing !!!

DQ, I think you are incredibly lucky that you have 'clicked' with a stranger and that as time has passed you have discovered a true friendship.
Friendship as any relationship takes time and effort, certainly when people live in different areas.
As a couple we have many holiday acquaintances that we keep in touch with, and if they lived locally I know we would meet up occasionally. but we just do Christmas cards , holiday reports etc.
I see Sue has mentioned the cyber bar is that the latest cocktail bar.?
Have a super time tomorrow. Blow the retail therapy a natter with bubbly is far more fun.

Andrea, The Cyber Bar was set up on the old old forum by Carol.(hoping to meet her again later this year.)Andrea S wrote:DQ, I think you are incredibly lucky that you have 'clicked' with a stranger and that as time has passed you have discovered a true friendship.

We used to have such a laugh. Really let our hair down. Some didnt approve, but it was harmless fun, bit risque at times..but just daft stuff !!
Of course thats where we were all hoodwinked by another 'cyber friend' who turned out to be false. Lesson learnt.
But thats where Jo and I clicked. So cant have been al bad...lol

Quite a few actually, meeting one tomorrow - see her every couple of weeks. We meet about halfway and have a catch up !.
Last week four of us met up in Oxford, intending to do a bit of shopping but we spent most of the time chatting and eating !.
I also spent a long weekend with a dear friend in Somerset a few weeks ago as well and will see her again in a fortnight when I travel down for a concert.
There are many genuine people on websites, I met the first of my cruise friends at the very first (unofficial) cruise connections get-together, ten years ago this September which was held by Peter Ruffoni !.

O no, not another champagne meet, watch out York is all I can say, Lorraine has indicated she would like a visit to York, I don't know now.
We met a couple on a cruise, I was first in touch with her via an board meet thread, I arranged on the old P&O forum, not the last forum, the one before that.
We got on so well on board, we have kept in touch, and even stayed at their home on occasions.
My wife and I have also met Sue (spud) and her husband on Azura, and although my wife does not post or even look at this or any other forum, her and Sue are friends on their own Facebook pages.
I have met many cruise forum members, not just from this forum, or the previous P&O forum, I met a number from another cruise forum, at a recent visit and inaugural lunch of the new cruise ship, Royal Princess.

I agree there are many genuine people on forums, there is a lovely lady on here that was kindness itself to me when my husband had an accident and I had to cancel a cruise 18 months ago, funnily enough we only live a few miles apart but it isn't always easy finding a free day to meet up.Wobgoescruising wrote:Quite a few actually, meeting one tomorrow - see her every couple of weeks. There are several members on here that I would love to meet, one of these days hopefully

Well I remember you all talking about it...I wasnt one of the "clique" ...lolol.... didnt get in invite
Peter was a great member of the forum. Valued his input about Princess ships.
Had a thing about tight fitting jeans and white shirts.....I remember that too...

Just let us know when you are visiting and we will see if we can join you for lunch then that will be another name I can cross off my list.

I have met a couple of people on here through onboard meets and would be pleased to call them friends I will hopefully meet again one day. There are also many people on this forum I hope to meet one day when our paths do eventually cross.
I hope DQ and suespud have a great day in York.

So much for our early night....lol
Its good when you meet people and realise that they are just the same in real life as they come across on here.
When we met Derek and Lorraine..it was just like meeting old friends as I knew Derek on here quite well.
There was none of that new people meeting each other awkwardness..cos we knew about each other...(probably knew too much about me cos I talk too much)
Mavis was another lovely person to meet. She is just as lovely in real life as she comes across on here.
In fact all those who Iv met from this forum are.
Alex and I have been to another members home and she and I meet as often as we can when Im in Swansea. Her and her hubby are lovely too !!
Ohhh I think we need a group hug
pmsl
Sorry just bumping me gums !!!

" So have you met anyone from the forum ( other than on a cruise ) and do you keep in touch/meet. "
Now, that's an interesting question.
I think it's true to say that apart from exchanging a few Xmas cards over the years we have never met up with any of our fellow cruisers be they from this Forum or indeed anywhere else for that matter ... thus far.
Conversely we exchange umpteen cards and e-mails with couples who we have met over the years on our coaching tours, we have been to each other's houses as far away as Vancouver and even went to Las Vegas for a special birthday bash with another couple.
The situation on our coaching tours, for us, is more relaxed and people are, we have found, generally more natural and less inclined to try to impress one another so we think we are seeing the real person rather than an image being portrayed.
It's probably a genetic defect in our make up ...

Have a good day girlies and don't disappoint me by sitting like a couple of old dears over a pot of tea in Betty's. I am quite au fait with the watering holes of York and there is plenty of choice. Also, had a lovely meal last year in The Olive Tree, down near Clifford's Tower. Have fun

I hope you enjoy your day. I haven't actually met anyone in person from the forum on any of my cruises. I am still in touch with someone ( an extremely nice and well liked person) from the old forum. They no longer post on here. Perhaps we'll meet on a cruise one day I hope so.
