Romig, You do 'girlie' .

Is this as in drinks or retail therapy. I can picture you with a glass of bubbly as you tuck in to a burger but the mind boggles at you in the 'girlie' departments.

Well what a fantastic day we've had ... Helen no problem we will never be 2 old dears drinking tea in Betty's - heaven forbid  within 5 minutes of getting off the train we had found a watering hole and were on our first bottle of champers ... note I say first

So are the rumours of you lying under a table outside the ladies singing 'My little pixies' true?

I never thought we would be real life friends too...lol
Iv met you and another...who is a lifelong friend too...( I think..she will need to conform this...lol)
Hoping to meet her again, next week and also meet another next week, who Iv not met before, but are cyber friends.
Then of course Im still trying to meet my posh speaking cyber friend from London..we will get that sorted one day.
I keep tellin' yer, I ain't posh.
Last time I spoke to Sue the welsh overlay of her northern accent had gone and I almost needed subtitles! Mind you the 3 of us having a mobile conversation with 3 very different accents was an interesting exercise in listening !

I hope York survived

I've met a few forum members, and some, like Sue and DQ have said, have become very special friends.
I chat to one on the phone every now and then. I've yet to meet Sue (see above) but have spoken to her whenever I am aware she's meeting the aforementioned owner of the phone...

SUE & DQ. York Police have issued a statement.

'Would the 2 stylish ladies letting their hair down in York yesterday care to show the local youngsters how you can enjoy your drink without rolling around in the gutter '

It sounds like it was another fun day for you both.

Meg has just commented on the different accents when speaking over the phone.

When reading a post I often think of the vast amount of accents there probably are on the forum and each of us will be reading it in a 'different' way. I also find some expressions also show where people live or were brought up and it is another fun aspect of this forum.

But when I read her posts now I hear her voice!

Meg, as my "partner in crime" forgets very easily ( usually after her second glass of fizz, never mind two bottles ) as one who "CAN" take her drink and remember the plan was .....
It might make it easier for all if we made a meet somewhere close to whichever main London station we all arrived at ( if we all check our individual stations and then maybe those with knowledge could come up with a venue ) whilst Hampton Court is appealing and not being discounted we were just thinking will we actually have the opportunity to do what we do best eat/drink and chat  so thought we could maybe find a nice hotel where we could have morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and well basically just take the place over for the day.

Speaking only for myself I don't really know London and have never been there on my own, I certainly wouldn't have the confidence to do the underground on my own and whilst I wouldn't mind just jumping in a cab distance and cost is obviously a consideration which was why we thought somewhere central to all might be a good idea, having said that I have no idea how close the main stations are to each other, I'm open to suggestions though and will go with the flow, you obviously know where places are so maybe even meet centrally and then all go to wherever from there.

As a local with free travel in London I'll go wherever.

But when I spent the day in town with 'the phone owner' she put me to shame by having more idea of the geography than I - isn't that always the way?

we caused chaos in the National Gallery and later in Embankment gardens where we were picked up twice by the same chap in order to invite us to an exhibition in Somerset House! we declined and went window shopping instead

DQ

The underground isn't as intimidating as you think. I think there's an app for Android in which you say where you're going and it tells you which stations/lines to use)

All the main railway stations are on the Circle (yellow) line. The Central (red) line goes straight down Oxford Street (Marble Arch, Bond Street, Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road being the stops most likely to be used by visitors). Trains from Derby arrive at Kings Cross St Pancras so you'll want the Northern (black) line to get to the centre.

I would recommend the Tattershall Castle, moored just along from Embankment Station for a drink. Also the cafe in the crypt under St Martin in the Fields (Trafalgar Square) is excellent for snacks and light meals.

Thanks Alan, I need to check which station Chesterfield trains go into ( I know it isn't Kings Cross ) just been a bit busy to look at it today yet, I'm sure the underground isn't that intimidating but if anyone is going to get lost it will be me, I'm not blonde for nothing  no seriously I get on a train and I must ask at least 6 people is this going to so and so, I really haven't got any sense of direction and heaven help me if there are two platform numbers on the same stretch

Jean, shame on you, you should know I don't need to recover  we must get Bakewell sorted out.

I'll believe you :)

We must definitely get Bakewell sorted, especially whilst the weather is like this

By the way, it's St Pancras (next door to Kings Cross I believe). We had better never travel together then because my sense of direction is not brilliant either :(
