Save, Spend or Donate

It appears Britians youngest lottery winner has spent it all ... or reading the article let most of it fritter away.

If you won big would you be inclined to spend, save or donate the money?

For me it would be all three - however the amount for each would be dependant on the level of the win.

we decided as a family that a big win would be 10% to charity (and anyone who asks doesn't get....) then split equally between us.
what each does with their cut is up to them, but I suspect it would be splash on some luxuries and save the rest

I would spend and donate, I've reached the point in my life where saving isn't a priority and at some point you should start to spend and enjoy the fruits of your labour but I think in the case of a large lottery win it would very much depend on a persons age and saving would be the sensible thing to do to ensure their future.

I’m told one million is much like the next, and the family doesn’t need taking care of; anyway I don’t do the lottery.

Why invest – I can do more good for more people by investing; but it’s not going to happen, because I am far to tight-fisted to play the lottery. It’s smashing – no need to queue for a ticket, no need to search out the results and best of all, no wasted money.

Do it on-line then you do not have to queue

If you do it on-line then you will be notified about any win, and small wins will be paid into you on-line account

Hi David,

Yes, I know it can be done online, but I can remember saying when supermarkets stopped accepting cheques money can be spent so much more easily without people actually realising what they've spent - and if you make a mistake online with the lotto then the transaction is complete and it might be one heck of a bother to reverse the situation.

I used to prefer writing out cheques (or indeed using real money) because it made me sort of double-check that I wanted and needed the product/service. With a debit card it is so much easier - and online ...... well that beggars belief for me!

A sizeable chunk for the kids, some for us (more cruises?) and the rest to our favourite charities.

No kids to leave money too, and I don't have any siblings which leaves the outlaws. Which is a somewhat accurate description of most of them.

So..... ensure that the trustworthy outlaws don't have mortgages to pay, and give them the opportunity to spend holidays with us if they want.

Oh, and rent Spitbank Fort for a weekend bender with friends.
