Olympic Games
Hi,
One of David Cameron's lackeys Vince Cable says that the Olympic Games have provided benefits to all of the UK not just London.
Have you seen any benefits in your area?
I thought the Games were magnificent, but I certainly haven't seen any benefits in Chesterfield or Sheffield.
Is it just the capital that it has benefited?
John

Re: Olympic Games
A very cynical view CJ.
We will not know exactly how many areas of society have benefited from the olympic games, but it is claimed that they have brought in a lot more money from tourism, investment, jobs, sports etc.
Those things benefit everybody, no matter whereabouts in the UK.
Tourists may visit London but then move around the UK spending money.
Investment could be placed anywhere in the UK.
More jobs will increase overall moral and tax revenue throughout the UK.
Sports venues and investment will also be right around the country.
Much of it will not be tangible by the average person on the street, but the wider benefits are there. Also this was a total cross party event much of the prep being done by Labour and the completion and hosting being done by the coalition government .. overall the governments do have to accept their share of credit for helping put it together.

Re: Olympic Games
In Dorset there is a major road improvement to/from Weymouth plus a Gold Post Box in Sherborne ... it was reported that there were ' less ' tourists as a consequence of the Games.
There may have been other benefits but certainly none that I am aware of.

Re: Olympic Games
I seem to recall a story that although Weymouth had some considerable benefit during the lead up to the Games that they were going to loose all of that post Games due to the fact the the sailing teams had spent the last two or three years based there.
