QEII

Unread post by gfwgfw »

Hey Ho

"""Crown Prince Philippe, 53, was sworn in as the new Belgian king after the abdication of his father Albert II"""

Methinks

That my fantastical Queen Elizabeth II

Should bite the bullet, and hand over her reign Charles

And live her days with her beloved Philip

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN from rural Darzet

... and then within a few years (approx 2020) Charles should abdicate and hand over to William .. a new young king to drive the country forward.

Not a chance. She said, upon becoming Queen, "I will devote myself to my country" - and she has and will continue to do so

I can't see Her Majesty abdicating until the Duke is no longer with her.

The Queen is a very religious lady and is someone who takes her Coronation Oath very seriously.

She will never abdicate.

In the event of Her Majesty's physical or mental capacity to discharge her duties, she would still remain Sovereign but a Regency would be created and would fall to the direct heir, unless themselves incapacitated or a child, and were this to happen tomorrow Prince Chales would be Regent and would become King on the death of his mother.

Derek - it's not very often I agree with your views ;) but in this instance I could not agree more - I too don't believe the Queen will abdicate - she takes her vows very seriously and the Duke of Edinburgh passing away would not make an iota of difference - she's made of sterner stuff and is probably still haunted by the abdication crisis caused by her uncle which subsequently put her father on the throne and the rest is history.

Mr Kane

Again you do see it as it is, and I do partially agree with you

However with the recent news from that the very popular King Arthur II of Belgium has "retired" I do believe our Queen deserves just a few quality years with her Philip

Do hope all is well on your patch of rural Hampshire

Kindly

I think Derek Kane in this instance is spot on, the Queen will never abdicate, for her the job is for life, irrespective of what happens to Phillip.

As for deserving a few quality years with Phillip, I think if you were to ask her, she would say all the years with him, have been quality, in fact compared to most, her whole life has been quality, and her reign has certainly been one of quality.

I am also in agreement with Derek - I don't believe the Queen will ever abdicate.

She may cut back on her duties, and Charles, William and Harry may take on more work, but the Queen will always be Queen

I would rather see the crown pass directly to William

I agree SS, but to keep the traditionalists happy, I think it will possibly have to pass through Charles first.

Well it appears the Duchess has gone into hospital in the early stage of Labour ... I guess I Know what will be filling miles of newspaper columns over the next couple of weeks ... in governmental circles they refer to it as a good time to release bad news :)
