RIP OFF BRITAIN
Hi - have any of you noticed that branded products are now packaging their goods smaller. However, we are still paying the same price for less. One example today, my cat's biscuits are now in the same size box but have only 825g instead of 950g last week? I have emailed Nestle to ask why and will let you all know the answer.

It's not just your cat's biscuits ... there are many examples right across the shopping list.

Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Re: RIP OFF BRITAIN
It's been going on for a long time now. It is a pure marketing ploy - the alternative is to increase the price of the larger pack - six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Re: RIP OFF BRITAIN
best compare the price per 100 grammes or whatever to get a true price
we do this and it shows that the larger packs are not always good value ,as often a smaller pack is more cost effective

It is happening right across the board, Tinks. Watchdog an article about this towards the end of last year (or beginning of this year). Some packs are up to 20% smaller ... and the marketing ploy had been to advertise 'Great new flavour' and they fail to mention that the pack size has been reduced).

I have terrible trouble with instant coffee in supermarkets. I know, how very ordinary - but we don't all have hi-tech all singing, all dancing coffee machines and some of us actually like the stuff !Dark Knight wrote:best compare the price per 100 grammes or whatever to get a true price

Anyway, when Mrs C was having her hip-hop and I was doing the woman's work, I got very confused by the different sized jars of the same stuff, all with different offers - two for £8, buy one get one free , £2 off. The price per 100g didn't help as I could never work out whether that included the offer price or not. Lucky I was at school the day they did sums but most of the time I lost the will and just bought the bloody stuff I thought looked best value

Re: RIP OFF BRITAIN
If ' one ' shops at Sainsbugs ' one ' can check out their online prices before ' one ' goes shopping as theirs do indeed include the actual prices per 100gms regardless of it being on offer or not.
Sainsbug's Online Groceries
They had 1kg bags of Lavazza Expresso beans on offer recently for £3:74 instead of approx £12 so I picked up a few bags before they changed their mind

Afraid "one" doesn't have the time nor inclination for that kind of finesse MOB - it was grab it quick and run whilst one was doing the woman's work

Re: RIP OFF BRITAIN
Well - I had a reply to my email today - apparently people cannot afford to buy cat biscuits anymore so they have reduced the pack weight so people are not priced out of the market however they have a limited control on the retail price charged ? Waffle if you ask me - see below:-
Thank you for contacting us with regards to the recent changes to Go-Cat Complete pack sizes.
We are very aware of the increasing economic pressures on our consumers and our top priority is to ensure that we continue to provide the tasty and quality products that we know our consumers love.
Go-Cat regularly carries out research to better understand the needs of our consumers. With the increasing economic pressures on UK shoppers, we realised that our Go-Cat Adult 950g packs were proving too expensive for some cat owners. Being the UK’s favourite dry cat food, we wanted to ensure that Go-Cat remains accessible to as many owners as possible. For this reason, we decided to reduce the product weight in order to lower the Recommended Retail Price. The cost per gram has been reduced to reflect the lighter weight of the 825g pack, in line with our everyday price assurance, please see below:
Old 950g Adult packs RRP £2.65 / RRP £2.79 per kg
New 825g Adult packs RRP £2.29 / RRP £2.78 per kg
We would also like to explain the process which determines the price our customers pay for our products. Purina Petcare suggests a recommended price to the retailer, who in turn decides upon the price at which they will sell to their customers. We have limited control over the price at which you buy any of our products and can merely make a recommendation to the retailer.
Please be assured, we have carefully noted your comments and have passed them onto the Go-Cat Brand Manager for their information. Contact with our customers provides an invaluable contribution in protecting and improving the standards of our products and services and we are therefore most grateful to you for the feedback which you provided.
We hope we have provided further clarification regarding this matter but if we can be of further assistance please contact us again, on our freephone number which is shown above.
Kind regards
Alice Turner

What a large quantity of geriatric shoe-repair craftsmen....
The cost per gram is exactly the same.

Exactly - the purina woman obviously is not a mathematician.
