P&O newbuild size restriction on balconies.

Unread post by towny44 »

Royal Princess, and therefore the new P&O ship, has balconys which are only 4 ft deep, anyone even slightly obese is likely to get stuck on one sooner or later.

I never really understood most of the balconies on ships which are little more than postage stamp size allowing just about enough space for a couple of chairs and a small table. I know that at the back end of some of the ships there are some decent balconies and on some ships they also have decent balconies elsewhere (some even come with jacuzzis and I have seen one with its own gym equipment.

It is not a problem.

You both sit in a corner and face inwards but may need to change places from time to time to split the sun and the shade

... or as I heard one lady joking ... you need to change position to get your other leg sun tanned ... and right enough she had one very tanned leg and the other was pure white :)

Found an article on balcony size with a photo of a new balcony from Royal Princess. I really think this is a backward step in ship design, just one more reason why I will continue to favour Celebrity.

Small balconies, no promenade deck - not impressed at all.

And remember that P&O's new ship in 2015 is of the same design

That's not a balcony, it's a shelf! Its even narrower than Azura's promenade deck. How is it that a big ship can have so little space? No prom deck, no balcony, not for us.

Quizi bob

I would ,being the cynic I am, say that they want you inside the ship, spending money , not walking about and lazing on your balcony spending nothing
its all about revenue and getting you to part with your cash.........simples

that's why we don't pay silly money for a book shelf, when we cruise, would rather spend my money on other things rather than waste it on that

Well at least it's a bigger balcony than they'd get on the inside or outside cabin they'd paid for!

Anyway the answer is simple. Smaller chairs.
