The New Dr Who
Last night Peter Capaldi was announced as the 12th Dr Who.
He is not an actor that I can particularly recall seeing much of although I have heard the name.
"Time" will tell as to whether he will be a good choice as a Time Lord

Didn't recognise the name myself but having had a look at his bio, I do remember his role in Vicar of Dibley

Probably just not the type of work that I watch or interests me - not saying that there is anything wrong, just not my "cup of tea"Dark Knight wrote:he has been around for 30 years and has a large body of work on stage and screen

he is more famous, I suppose, for his role of Malcom Tucker in" the thick of it", which was loosley based on Alistar Campbell ,allegedly, but has appeared in Doctor who as well
he has won a few Bafta'a and an academy award as well
a case of under the rada if ever there was one

Re: The New Dr Who
I think it's a good thing that a more mature actor has been chosen.
In recent years, Dr Who has turned into sickly sentimental fan girl mush.
Hopefully an older actor will signal a move away from this and we may hopefully get some darker and scarier story lines.
The youth of today needs to learn how to watch Dr Who correctly - from behind the sofa!

The children are devastated because he is so old. I am devastated because he's totally unfanciable
I never thought I'd get over David Tennant leaving but Matt Smith had grown on me and was a brilliant doctor. Gill, I don't think I could cope with anything scarier than the Weeping Angels

It was the 'are you my mummy' Empty Child that freaked me out the most!HK phooey wrote:The children are devastated because he is so old. Re: The New Dr Who
All these comments about being too old clearly come from the young things who don't remember the original and equally old doctor. About time we got back to someone with a few miles on the clock. And the good news is that all the PC clamour for a black, disabled, lesbian, single mother came to nothing either.

True, but I'm not sure he has the legs to carry it off.

Apparently there are some for whom the new Doctor is a major issue, there not enough racial/gender diversity in Time Lords - what they fail to understand is that Dr Who is a Time Lord, not Time Lady, and has always been male. You just can't apply modern day equality to a fantasy programme. My favourite Doctors were Christopher Eccleston (I was so disappointed when he finished) and the stunning David Tennant. I like the Doctor to be played seriously, much preferring that to a whimsical, slightly gormless flapping Doctor, which is at odds with his enormous power and intelligence.

Gormless & flapping.......now who does that remind us of?
