Someone has posted this on Facebook a few minutes ago, it was taken from their personaliser

Smoking is not permitted in cabins, however you may smoke on your private cabin balcony** and in designated areas on the open decks. Please do not to throw any cigarette ends, cigars or matches over the ship’s side as these may be drawn into openings on the ship’s sides and cause a fire. When you discard these items, please ensure they are extinguished properly using the ashtrays provided on the open decks. Electronic cigarettes which do not emit smoke are not permitted in public areas but can be used in cabins, balconies and designated areas of the open deck.
**(Smoking will not be permitted in cabins, including on your private cabin balcony with effect from 29 April 2014 on Adonia, 13 April 2014 on Arcadia, 24 April 2014 on Aurora, 4 April 2014 on Azura, 5 April 2014 on Oceana, 18 April 2014 on Oriana, and 26 March 2014 on Ventura).

Won't affect me, I don't smoke and I have no cruises booked with P&O after this October.

I wonder if there will be some who will seek to cancel because of this? Or trade down from a balcony, purchased for the purpose of 'smoking at home'?
Wonder where they will stand and how P&O will deal with their requests?

to give people time to get used to it, for forward bookings, so people get the right message and don't book a balcony thinking they can smoke on it, then throw a paddy when they can't and or moan on endlessly about it on forum's

*** NEWS FLASH ***

REVISED GUIDE LINES

'**(Smoking will not be permitted in cabins, including on your private cabin balcony with effect from 29 April 2014 on Adonia, 13 April 2014 on Arcadia, 24 April 2014 on Aurora, 4 April 2014 on Azura, 5 April 2014 on Oceana, 18 April 2014 on Oriana, and 26 March 2014 on Ventura). However we will be providing a dingy that will towed a quarter mile behind the ship and attached via the top deck rail for those passengers that feel the need for a puff. Access will be via sliding down the rope. Please note, there will be no turning round to pick up droppers.'

I wonder who will enforce this. On our last cruise someone was smoking on an inside cabin. Every time we passed a certain point in the corridor we could smell smoke. I don't know how they didn't set off the smoke alarm. We thought the cabin steward must have been aware of this but probably didn't like to say anything. Some people will always think the rules do not apply to them.

Well I can't say I'm sorry about this - we had a cruise during which the people on the next door balcony (a) smoked and (b) spent a heck of a lot of time shouting into their mobile phone! I don't know which was more annoying.

However, if people do smoke I feel sorry for them - what on earth are they going to do?

I'll go and have a look at our cruise personalisers for 2014 and see if this is on other cruise lines too.

Em :D

Well, ok let's imagine that a passenger is caught in the act of smoking where and when they shouldn't. What would the penalty be? Surely they can't impose a new regulation without saying what the penalty would be?

Any suggestions?

Em

most hotels impose a rather large cleaning cost added to your bill, they could do this

About time to. I got fed up of putting it on my fed back forms. I am starting to like P&O again.

Em, no doubt they will still be able to smoke on the designated side of the ship on the prom deck, either that or they will have to give up or not go on a cruise.

Celebrity say $250 for cleaning
So all those that had smoked on there balconies will now be congregated in places that are allowed suppose then that will be wrong
I thought it would happen can't say I agree with it
And I don't smoke but if people smoke I move away.

I think his was always on the cards once other lines started doing similar. To be honest it was a bit overdue ... Hopefully they have made proper plans for managing remaining smoking areas.

Now we await the complaints about smokers ruining the promenade deck etc.

When they introduced no smoking in inside cabins a friend of mine cancelled. A couple of months later they rebooked except this time it was a balcony cabin at a lower price than the inside they had cancelled.

I know he has at least one more cruise booked with P&O and i know as soon as he hears this he will be cancelling.

it is hardly a long walk from your cabin up to the deck for a smoke
this wouldn't influence me in choosing a cruise
