Sick society
What sort of sick perverted depraved scum could sexually assault a 10 week old baby. I wouldn't even call them animals because even animals are better behaved. The only saving grace is that they have been caught and the child will not remember what happened.
I am not a fan of the death penalty so it would be proportionate if they were sentenced to a long term in jail, served in with other prisoners, after someone has let it slip as to why they are in there ... then it is a case of whatever-happens-happens, oh-dear-what-a-shame, never-mind, what-is-for-dinner ... either that or use them for organ donation without the benefit of anesthetic. Naturally that is all just an over reaction, but jail really is too good for things like these two.

There is clearly something wrong with a human being who can do something like that. They have gone haywire and do not possess the human attributes that make us civilised. They cannot be mended and so should be disposed of.

Re: Sick society
Even the thought of what they did is sickening. I agree prison is too good for them but no doubt once found guilty they will be able to hide behind their human rights.
I was taught to be cautious

It is just unbelievable - not that I am doubting the originator of this thread.
Punishment - oh yes, heaps of it; but more importantly it must be ensured firstly that this baby is properly cared for, and secondly that this horrendous incident doesn't follow the baby as it grows up.

Re: Sick society
there is very little to be said, as most people wil be in agreement as to what is needed
Sadly , due to the lack of a strong deterent and a society unwilling to implement this type of deterent, these people will spend a few years in Jail and little more, the taxpayer will foot the bill, they will be protected and possibly have their identity changed etc etc
as bad as this is, it is a sad reflection on our society, that we have no punishmnet to fit this type of crime and we are too "civilised" to do anything but make noises about what should be done

Re: Sick society
I agree Mo - there is something wrong with anyone that can do this but without knowing the facts we should not jump to conclusions. There is a possibility that one, or both, of these individuals have some other issue (possibly mental health issues or learning difficulties etc.). If this were to be the case then there is a possible argument that all of us, as society, are at fault for not giving them the support that they obviously needed.Mo2013 wrote:There is clearly something wrong with a human being who can do something like that. However they may well be evil scum that deserve all they get.

Oh I'm sure they will become known to the other inmates at some point these things have a habit of becoming known and rightly so imo.
This sort of scum don't deserve just to be locked up and if the "do gooders" won't do it then I take my hat off to whoever will, even the most hardened criminals will be sickened by such an act.

David, I am not the only one jumping to conclusions (?). I have personal experience of mental health issues but I am afraid that with the best will in the world, and all the help and support in the world, someone who can do something like that is clearly damaged beyond rehabilitation - and I am only referring to the couple who have perpetrated these dreadful acts.

I hate stories like this. I can't bear the thought of what some poor children go through, such as that little polish boy who died recently. It was heartbreaking. There seem to be more and more of these stories lately. What is wrong with people

Re: Sick society
There seem to be so many stories of cruelty to children these days, it is too horrible to contemplate, and you can never undo the hurt. I wonder if our society hasn't got something rotten at the core. There are enough beautiful, and free things to enjoy all around us wherever we live, if we look beyond simple cheap pleasures. Just the sky, the trees, stars, smiling fellow humans. Surely we dont have to injure children and each other for real pleasure in life.
Am I living in cloud cuckoo land? Or smug? Perhaps I've just been very lucky to avoid the seamier side of life.

Re: Sick society
Frank, cruelty to children has probably gone on for years, it's just that we all get to hear about it these days. Just lately I have thought there seems to be so much of it, and some people are evil to the core. What about those who enjoy watching 'snuff' films, actually watching really die? What about those who enjoy watching terribly violent films? Worse still are those who would go and watch films based on real-life events. There is a sick underbelly to society comprising of those who are not human as we know it for they have no conscience, no guilt, no compassion, no remorse, in fact they have none of the attributes associated with being a decent human being.

Re: Sick society
I agree, I'm sure child cruelty has always been around. Today though I really think drugs play a big part. I'm probably very old fashioned but I think there is far too much talk about sex these days. Even on morning programmes such as 'This morning' I find inappropriate topics, topics which children shouldn't be watching. Violent films and violent computer games I think have all contributed to the society we have become. I remember when Mary Whitehouse was vilified. I think she made many valid points and it's been a slippery slope since then.

Emjay, I agree with your comments. There will always be people for whom just life is not enough, they have to use drugs because life itself isn't enough, they practise deviant sex because normal sex just isn't enough, they have to get blind drunk because a couple of drinks are not enough, they have to watch horrible films to fulfil some sick need - a normal film is not enough. I have two grandchildren, and I am shocked at the trailers shown during the day for films which are not appropriate for young eyes. There are hardly any boundaries left.

There's no substitute for a mutually loving relationship. I agree with you both, on all points, but it still makes me sad at society rather than angry.
On a cheerier note I just persuaded Sue to let us book another cruise next Spring, just 7 days, but 4 ports we haven't done before. Then I'll try to persuade her to go through the Kiel canal on Adonia, later.

Frank: like I say, for some people a mutually loving relationship is just not enough for some.
Good for you booking the cruise - my cruise before last was the caribbean and Panama canal. My husband wanted to see the Panama Canal and I wasn't that interested, but I really enjoyed it. We were on Arcadia and had a balcony at the stern, and going through the canal we were looking out the back to where we'd come from/the locks etc. and then looking at the cam on the tv in the cabin for the front view ! Brilliant.
Emjay: I agree for I worry too.

No matter what way you spin it, it is our generation(s) that have created the society we all live in today ... we may disagree with a lot of what has happened, we may deplore many things that now occur ... but millimetre by millmietre we (collectively) were in charge when the changes took place ... we (collectively) allowed the changes to take place ... we (collectively) are responsible for both the good and the bad (and there is a lot of good as well as bad).Mo2013 wrote:Not me. Re: Sick society
fair point well made Ken
perhaps if more people were honest and not trying to hide behind the "it wasn't me "defense, we would not be in the mess we are in and we would have a justice system, that meant something
it's always the same on here, nobody admits they voted for this or that, they never agreed with or fought against anything, but spout pompous gibberish about it is never their fault, well shock horror yes it is all, our faults, every single one of us
so man up and accept it

Re: Sick society
An awful crime.
Assuming the worst as regards the motives of the accused, we should not allow the tiny number of offenders of these types (out of all criminals) to allow base human rights in our jails to be suspended.
ALL prisoners deserve to be protected from violence whether from inmates or prison staff. Human Rights apply to us all - and "ex-judicial" action by would be "justice seekers" as well as landing them with further imprisonment (or no parole) may also mean a crime committed against someone later found to be innocent.
One recalls Christopher Jeffries, who came under the police radar as a suspect and was disgracefully castigated by the gutter press, who was guilty of no more than a bad haircut - ie "he must be guilty because he looks 'odd'".
Stefan Kishko ... the list goes on.
