Spare a thought - A level results day.

Unread post by Boris+ »

There is every chance that someone on the forum will have a close connection with a student who has received A level results today.

So, I hope you've had good news, congratulations!

Em :)

Hi Em

Yes my grandson got his results today and achieved all he needed to get to the university of his choice.

We are all very pleased and proud of him but I do feel sad for those who have been disappointed.

Anne :D

Our Granddaughter has just txt me - all went well for her - she hopes to get into Nottingham Uni, wherever that is :?:

How life has changed, I left my school at 15 years old, with NO qualification, NO money, but I did have the joy of my own transport . . . . a bicycle

Cycled 10 miles to Dorchester and was interviewed by a panel of Trustees for a charity set up by a benefactor for young men, just like me being schooled during the dark days of WW2

Not to bore my only reader to distraction - I gained an Indentured Apprenticeship for six years as a Compositor

Well it must have gone well because our Dear Mr Kane now helps finance my generous Company pension :D

Congratulations to you both on your grandchildren's results. My grandchildren have some years to go before they sit their 'A' levels. I'm sure I'll be as anxious then as I was for my own children.

Interestingly our son is just as anxious, if not more so, about the achievements of his pupils (maths teacher in Saigon) as he was when taking his own A levels.

Hi Ann, and Hi Graham,

Fabulous news - well done both!

For those who have been a bit disappointed today - firstly trust the clearing system, and then embrace the thought that there is more than one way to skin a cat (apologies to all feline lovers), life isn't a race, and it will all come out in the wash. ;)

Em :)

My younger daughter sat and passed a bursary exam for her chosen university: So no stress awaiting her A level results - and she knew by April that she definitely had a place, so we could plan accommodation etc. The bursary award (in the form of credit in the university bookshop) came in handy too!

Well done to your daughter, NSAM.
It is always something I thought that the government should do more with. There should be a symbiotic relationship between business and students. Companies should be incentivised (through tax benefits) of providing scholarships/bursaries to students to help pay fees and fund their way through university ... in return the student works much of their summer/winter holidays for the company (properly salaried), learning real life skills and then once qualified, they work for the company for a minimum period. This could really help students and reduce recruitment costs for a company.

A set of quads on the Isle of Wight have all passed the A levels they needed for entrance to the universities of their choice. Their parents must be extremely proud but all I can say is I'm glad its not us for all the financial implications it involves. However, well done the quads.

We have a son who lives in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, I just love that name, his partner works at Boots Headquarters which I believe is situated in Nottingham

Do hope all is well on your patch

Graham, Congratulations to your Granddaughter. You must be feeling very proud.

Nottingham University is in a lovely setting and I am sure she will enjoy her time here in Nottingham.

We also have Nottingham Trent University ( Former Polytechnic) so she will find a very large influx of students with plenty of entertainment , bars and restaurants geared towards their budgets. If she likes shopping she will find all the shops she could want.

I'll keep my fingers crossed Graham. I am sure your Granddaughter will be happy 'in these parts' :D

If she does and you ever visit, there are a few of us I am sure, that could meet up with you. It wouldn't be the first CC meeting on Land

Now that sounds a good idea :D

Just one question though, would our friendly giant be able to cope with us "Derbyshire ladies"

Derbyshire ladies sounds like a cricket team.

Wouldn't it be more appropriate for yourselves 'The Ladies of Derbyshire'.
