Good Day
Very sadly the very popular Saga Zone has been closed, apparently by continued abuse by a handful of the sados known as cyber trolls
Betty was an avid Saga Zoner and miss chatting with kindred posters
Unlikely, but has any her pals joined Davids excellent confection
Just love to link up with you

No not yet but I wouldn't rule out maybe trying them in the future.
What I would be interested in finding out is ... I believe they include insurance in the fare, we insure with them anyway but because my OH has a pre existing it is very expensive, as you don't go through a separate screening process with them ( as you do with many other insurers then pay an additional premium direct to that company ) I just wonder how it works and if in fact they would still offer the insurance to people with a pre existing.

We had our very first cruise with Saga Graham and enjoyed it very much. We had 7 days on Saga Rose which was a lovely ship. We found the crew and the food excellent - nothing too much trouble and a very friendly atmosphere onboard with many of the crew multi-tasking (found one of the dancers doing library duty one day). Particularly impressive was the way they dealt with their less mobile passengers, assistance always being available without necessarily having to look for it. Expensive but it showed in the level of service - and no Getaway fares on Saga. Everybody pays the same. We also have a friend whom we met onboard and she will sail with nobody else.

I had forgotten that Sage Rose was the former Cunard Caronia. Enjoyed a 5 nighter pre-Christmas Cruise in 2001 when in her Cunard clothes, then we back-to-back'd (sort of) by disembarking and embarking on Aurora for a Christmas / New Year Cruise.
Only one thing I couldn't abide on the Caronia. There was only really one bar (Was it the Yacht Club?) - long and narrow and it was infested with smokers - highly unpleasant. Other than that, a fine old girl and we went with another old girl in her final season six months later - P&Os Victoria.

Re: Perchance . . .
We were on the old Victoria in 1999 in the Caribbean. We were enchanted and began our love affair with cruising. We had Captain Green Flash... aka Captain Sample. Every evening the passengers would gather on the sun deck, glasses in hands, and watch the sun setting. Captain Sample would tell us there was a 100% chance that we would see the famous green flash when the sun dropped below the horizon. As the time went by the odds would drop, until of course there was no Green Flash. Until the last night when we were assured it happened! We are just as sure it didn't. A few years ago on Aurora, we were fortunate enough to witness the Green Flash. Quite a phenomenon. (If you don't know look it up in Google) .

Deviating slightly from Graham's original post, but I have to agree with Derek and Jay regarding 'the old girl' Victoria. We were fortunate to sail on her twice when we returned to cruising in 2000

Have done a couple of cruises with Saga, both on the Ruby, first was an 18 night mystery cruise. It turned out to be on of the best cruises we have ever done. Its also the cruise we met the late Steve Read ( Travel journalist). We also did the tall ships and Edinburgh Tattoo.
Both great cruises, but we did feel a tad young, Sue even got asked if she was doing a talk on the ship, lol

Ray, we were only in our mid 50's when we went with them. We had travelled down by train from the north and boarded a coach in London. We were only on it 20 minutes before somebody started moaning about the aircon being too cold. It was a sweltering hot day but the driver tried switching the aircon off. After 10 minutes he put it back on again as the coach was overheating inside!! Said moaner responded by putting her anorak on, her georgette headscarf on and put her hood up!!
At that moment we were thinking we had made a BIG mistake. Needless to say we didn't see her again and had a good holiday. They are among us!!!

OBF,
Sue and myself said the same thing as we sat in the Mayflower terminal, but still have friends from that cruise that we still keep in contact with.
