Do you happen to have two medals ... only, Mobietta seems to think that she deserves one ?Romig1 wrote:Happy Birthday Mobietta. And you deserve a medal for the anniversary celebs!
Thanks all, milestones are hard earned yet come and go so fast ... too fast it seems looking back at all those years.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Re: Bank Holiday Weekend
Graham you are so right. We dont go anywhere on Summer Weekends because the traffic and crowds in Bournemouth and Poole is horrendous. However I have to dash off to Homebase in a few minutes to get a some of tins of paint. We have a new wall and new oak doors in our lounge, and we want to try different combinations, before the decorator and his wife come for coffee Monday morning to suss the job out. That's my weekend planned!gfwgfw wrote:By Heck
There is very little space in town for us locals on Bank Holidays living in Poole Bay, just me and my ferrets at gfw towers this holiday week end

I do that regularly .. it now only takes me about 10 minutes.Silver_Shiney wrote:As the Lady C is working this weekend, I'll be rebuilding my computer, which has started playing billy suggers.....
I use a 64Gb SSD for my main boot drive and store only programs on it and then I have a 2tb data drive (which is split into a 64Gb bootable partition and the rest for data - I can boot from either drive). I keep an image of the SSD on the 2TB drive.
On the rare occasion my SSD decides to do its own thing I simply need to boot the main drive and restore the image back onto the SSD ... it only takes a few minutes.
I also keep the main data drive synch'd onto an external USB3 hard drive which takes about 5-10 minutes each weekend (so it is easy to restore if required) ... it can take longer if I have updated any of my virtual machines (which are huge .. the biggest is almost 150Gb .. I try not to update it
To be honest with Windows it is always good to rebuild it from scratch ... many a machine that is performing like a dog can be revived by reinstalling Windows - the trick however is always to keep your data on a different drive .. only keep windows and your programs on the main drive.

OH has trotted off to Meet JD (who's providing their lunch) en route for the Oval.
He's wearing his Olympic gamesmaker wet weather gear.... that'll confuse them. I hope he doesn't end up on TV!

Re: Bank Holiday Weekend
Working at a wedding reception later today and then having lunch tomorrow with my Aunt and Uncle, who are currently on a visit from Australia. They are staying with Mum for a couple of weeks and next weekend, we are whisking them off for a short break on Aurora
Have a slight problem in that Auntie Valerie has broken her ankle (only 3 days after they arrived in UK
), but have contacted P&O and they have been very helpful.
Just a nice relaxing day on Monday doing as little as possible - just hope the weather brightens up a bit for everyone.

If aunti can't make it I'm more than happy to step in. I draw the line at sharing a bed with your uncle though

Re: Bank Holiday Weekend
shouldn't laugh:
For OH's 60th JD gave him a certificate promising an outing to a sporting event of his choice.
Olympic tennis, says OH.
They go, it rains, JD gets a full refund...
Oval Test match says OH... They go, it rains, JD gets a full refund...
On the train on the way home they discuss which sporting event it can rain at next.... They are considering a Twickers international cos at least Rugby gets played in the rain!

Haven't got the readies to splash out on a SSD, have to make do with a 1Tb SATA HDD. It took me a while to find how to format it (found out I have to create a recovery disk, boot from that and then format) and, of course, 1Tb drives take forever and a day to format. Once it's done, I intend to partition it so I can have a dual-boot system with Ubuntu, because Win 7 doesn't always recognise the Firewire port.
My 500Gb external drive seems to fill up very quickly using Windows Backup - I think it's doing a fresh backup each time instead of an incremental backup but can't see how to change it.
Still, it keeps me off the streets....

Re: Bank Holiday Weekend
Just got back from my day out in London.
We went on a little coach trip. We were dropped in Covent Garden this morning, where we had coffee, then we were picked up and taken on to the Houses of Parliament. We had a tour, and then dropped back in Covent Gardens for a couple of hours, so Mr Gill and I had a meal in TGI Friday.
I highly recommend the tour of the Houses of Parliament. It's a fully guided 75 minute tour, and includes both the House of Lords and House of Commons. The guide was very good, and we were told a lot of the history of Parliament in this country, some of it a little basic, as not everyone on the tour was British. But I still learnt a lot. Next time Prime Ministers question time is on TV, I'll watch very closely, now that I've been on the back benches.

I am busy at a stately home..... I conducted a tour on Thursday, and like Gill had with her trip, some of my clientele were Danish, so I had to wait for the interpreter to do his bit in between. Luckily it worked okay...

I thought I had Monday off, however we have just come back into the house and it appears the pipework to one of our toilets has sprung a leak .. so I guess I will be doing my impersonation of a plumber on Monday

That is a very kind offer Stephen,
but we have got a wheelchair for my aunt, so she should be OK.
Thanks for your kind wishes Wina - these mini cruises are nice warm ups for the main event.
Hope you and R are both well.

That can be frustrating, as some things you build into your spiel don't always translate readily into another language and the talk can take twice as long. It's often been suggested that I learn Korean....jacksparrow wrote:I am busy at a stately home..... The last two days have been hot and sunny with promise of the same tomorrow. Had a walk along the promenade and jetty today. The tide was in and leaning against the rails at the end of the jetty was like standing on the promenade deck looking out to sea. I look across Morecambe Bay and the Lakeland hills were a picture today. Probably do the same tomorrow before going on duty on reception at the Hospice tomorrow evening.
Cheers

Re: Bank Holiday Weekend
It's been a glorious weekend here. We had a long walk over the cliffs behind our house yesterday, sitting for ages looking out to sea and at the beautiful beaches below. Today we had my mum and our daughter over for a BBQ and pottered in the garden. Tomorrow, we have to do a few decorating chores, prior to wardrobes being fitted next week, then more of the same ie walk and garden.
I have to say, since we moved here eight months ago, we don't feel the great urgency for holidays that we used to feel, as our village is so lovely, living here is almost a holiday in itself.

Re: Bank Holiday Weekend
Avoid driving on bank holidays whenever I can.
Saturday: housework and gardening.
Sunday: sorted out and planned wardrobe for 17n cruise in just under four weeks time. Visited dry cleaners with some summer suits and winter suits armed with over £100 worth of vouchers exchanged from Tesco Clubcard vouchers.
Then chatted to some friends on the village green for a couple of hours. Then went to local and committed aural violence ie Karaoke night.
Monday: attend a car boot fair (buyer) and then a village fete (elsewhere in the district). Possibly attend a pub quiz tonight.
