Do you have a fragrance that reminds you a a certain holiday, event, place etc. I am just getting ready to go out and sprayed on CK Shock and instantly was transported back to the wonderful cruise we had this year in the Caribbean. I wore this perfume every day - oh the memories - need to book another one

Not holidays, but Royal Secret by Germaine Monteil always reminds me of my youth and "going out". My friend tracked it down and bought me a bottle for my 60th recently. It took me right back there and then.

I remember Kiku don't know who made it but it was the same era as Aramis for men was popular. I would say early to mid 70s.

It was made by Faberge I think, and the dusting powder bowl was really quite stylish.

Nowadays though, in modern parlance - Champagne (which had it's name changed, obviously), Poison and the timeless No. 5.

Sort of spooky - but when I went into the nursing home to have our baby (seems so long ago), my lovely thoughtful husband gave me a gift of matching perfume, soap and talc, and it was No. 5. Fast forward quite a bit and on a hot summery day I end up in London in a big department store at the end of a day getting final bits and pieces for daughter's wedding.

I had the thought that it might be a nice idea for my daughter to give the bridesmaids perfume as an extra thankyou gift, so that they were all wearing the same perfume as they went down the aisle - I didn't prompt her in any way, and gave her freedom in the perfumery; I had never told her the story of No. 5 when she was born, and hadn't had any since. She selected the No. 5, and even bought some to give to me on the wedding morning.

I don't know how she knew, strange. So, for me C No. 5 is a summery wedding day.

I can well believe that this beautiful perfume can evoke good memories of your husband. It has been one of my favourites over the years.

At the moment I am using Swarovski Aura which I love and am on my third bottle. My husband originally bought me this for an anniversary.

I also have a new one Jo Malone Rose Water and Vanilla which if used with the Rosewater body lotion is lovely. My daughter gave me this for my last birthday.

Can anyone remember the Estee Lauder Youth Dew brought out in the seventies and everyone seemed to be wearing it? It was quite powerful.
I noticed that they are still selling it.

I too like Aura. I used Youthdew back in the late 60s. My mother thought it was wonderful and she started wearing it from then on. So these days when I smell it I think of my mother. Yes it's still on sale by Estee Lauder. I wonder whether the young wear it or whether it's just us oldies who remember it from years ago. Not that I'm that old I hasten to add!

I still like Ralph Lauren's Safari - not unlike Youthdew I suppose. I did use Ralph Lauren's Blue but I think they have stopped making it. I did find a bottle advertised on ebay and one on Amazon but I'm not convinced it's the real thing. Blue is quite light, lovely for daywear. I sometimes use Estee Lauder's Pleasures during the day. When I got married I was wearing Guerlain's Chamade, still available today but not always easy to find. Whenever I smell that it takes me straight back to my wedding day - as does the smell of Freesias as I had them in my bouquet.

I only found out after I had bought my third Aura that if you have a Swarovski shop near you and take in your empty bottle you can have it refilled there.
I must do that next time as the bottles are so lovely it seems a shame to throw them away. Should have found out the cost though.

Not sure who buys the Youth Dew now but must still be popular or they wouldn't stock it .

My OH had a brain aneurysm about 15 years ago and as a result, she lost her sense of taste and smell. At the time she was into YSL Paris and still wears it because she knows what it smells of. She still gets compliments about it from total strangers. Christmas and birthday presents are easy - body lotion or EDT.

We'll be topping up supplies in Gibraltar in about a couple of weeks.

I remember Youth Dew - one of the first "grown up" perfumes I ever had but now apart from Aromatics my favourites are Chanel Chance which my son buys for me every Christmas - I also like Chanel Coco Mademoiselle and Miss Dior.

I do wonder who buys Youth Dew now - it seems quite strong now to me - very distinctive smell but as Anne says someone must be buying it.

One of my neighbours uses Youth Dew, she looks after the house for us when we are away so I very often bring her a bottle back.

I use Estee Lauder .... Estee, that has been around for a long time and according to the girl in Debenhams it is still one of the most popular ones they sell, funnily enough though they stopped selling the body lotion years ago although you can still get it in Xmas gift packs and you can buy it abroad, I also use Chanel Allure which is my second favourite.

I love Aromatics Elixer and Angel but only on other people as both smell dreadful on me.
