A sex drive-in has opened in Zurich in an attempt to keep prostitutes safe and move the sex trade outside the Swiss city.

The nine "sex boxes", which are hidden behind a high fence, will be available for prostitutes and their clients from Monday onwards.

Just a small sign displaying opening hours and a red umbrella icon to designate a regulated sex work area mark the site in a former industrial zone in the west of the city.

There are clearly defined rules. Clients must be older than 18, one to a car, and condoms must be disposed of immediately after use in the bins provided.

There is an area where clients make a choice and the women negotiate a price before heading for the boxes, which are wooden frames that look like car ports.

On a more serious note however ... do all you ladies oppose them totally even though it could be reasoned that such places could potentially reduce street crime, including sex crimes, plus exposure to a host of sexually transmitted diseases ?

It would be interesting if someone on here would let us know why they felt the need to use a prostitute - what's wrong with using your own hands?

My thoughts are

1) If you are going to rape someone - you will not visit a prostitute - will make no difference to the sex crime rate.

2) Responsible people will always take precautions

3) If you cannot have a 'normal' sexual relationship - there is seriously something wrong with you.

In Germany they have their Eros centres and prostitution is carefully controlled. This gets the girls off the streets and into a safe(r) environment. They all have to be above a certain age and are subject to regular health checks which protects themselves and their paying public, and I presume they also pay tax!!!

Not that I have ever been to one of them but it seems a good idea to me. If people are willing to pay their money and girls are happy to provide that 'service' then hopefully it gets rid of all the pimps, the junkies and under age girls who solicit the streets looking for 'business'. I wish we took steps to regulate prostitution in much the same manner instead of avoiding the question and sweeping the subject under the carpet.

Booking a male/female escort is slightly different to visiting a prostitute - you spend a whole evening etc communicating with that person and attending a function. A good way of having a 'plus one' if you are not in a relationship (whether you get 'jiggy' at the end of the night I guess is up to you but no different from a one night stand).

Prostitution exploits women and men (gay or straight) and especially vulnerable people (the young, those already addicted to drugs and alcohol) and is exploited largely by criminal gangs (mainly men) who are also involved wiith crimes such as people smuggling for sex trade, slavery and illegal working together with counterfeit goods, the drugs trade, cigarette and tobacco smuggling, identity theft, debit and credit card scams, and illegal guns.

While I am obviously not in favour of the exploitation of girls/women, if it means they can operate with a higher degree of safety than would be realised by standing on a street corner, then I suppose it's an improvement. Most of those sex workers do it because they are either slaves to extortionists or they have become addicted to various drugs. What they really need is help, and a place of safety.

As an aside, there is one street in Bristol that was notorious for kerb-crawling and there was often an article in the local rag about it, with the residents, rightly, being up in arms about it. I helped a friend move into a house on that street, right on the corner of a crossroad. There was a "working girl" on each corner. Not an ideal location for him to bring up a young child, but he was desperate for a house. Last time I drove down that road, the council had reduced the speed limit to 20mph....

The Tinker, I agree with every comment you made about why the need.

Unfortunately in large cities you have young girls, hooked on drugs who are on the streets to earn money to pay their pimps just to enable them to buy more drugs

There are several areas in Nottingham which are classed as a 'red light' area. Kerb crawlers are often picked up and named in the local paper. They are usually married family men or business people.
It is sad to see very young girls on the streets wearing very few clothes in the middle of winter just to get their next fix. Fear of a beating by their pimp keeps them out for hours on end.

However ...

1) If somebody has reached the point where rape is being contemplated then a visit to a prostitute may prevent that particular rape which has to be a good thing.

2) The concern and provision is aimed at the irresponsible surely.

3) One person's normal is another person's boring.

The present situation involves street crime as gangs aim to control the prostitution rings, legalise it and the dregs will not be able to feed off these unfortunate girls.

Some girls are more willing than others let it also be said and will earn mega bucks in some parts of London and other major Cities.
