Are you "middle aged" ?

Unread post by qbman1 »

I see there is another of those silly surveys out today, which claims we hit "middle age" at 53.

Here are the pointers:

TOP 40 SIGNS OF GETTING ON

1. Losing touch with everyday technology such as tablets and TVs

2. Finding you have no idea what 'young people' are talking about

3. Feeling stiff

4. Needing an afternoon nap

5. Groaning when you bend down

6. Not remembering the name of any modern bands

7. Talking a lot about your joints/ailments

8. Hating noisy pubs

9. Getting more hairy - ears, eyebrows, nose and face

10. Thinking policemen/teachers/doctors look really young

11. Preferring a night in with a board game than a night on the town

12. You don't know any songs in the top 10

13. Choosing clothes and shoes for comfort rather than style

14. Taking a flask of tea on a day out

15. Obsessive gardening or bird feeding

16. Thinking there is nothing wrong with wearing an anorak

17. Forgetting people's names

18. Booking on to a cruise

19. Misplacing your glasses/bag/car keys etc.

20. Complaining about the rubbish on television these days

21. Gasping for a cup of tea

22. Getting bed socks for Christmas and being very grateful

23. Taking a keen interest in The Antiques Road Show

24. When you start complaining about more things

25. Listening to the Archers

26. You move from Radio 1 to Radio 2

27. Joining the National Trust

28. Being told off for politically incorrect opinions

29. Flogging the family car for something sportier

30. When you can't lose six pounds in two days anymore

31. You get shocked by how racy music videos are

32. Taking a keen interest in the garden

33. Buying travel sweets for the car

34. Considering going on a 'no children' cruise for a holiday

35. When you know your alcohol limit

36. Obsessively recycling/knowing the collection dates

37. Always carrying a handy pack of tissues

38. Falling asleep after one glass of wine

39. Spending more money on face creams/anti-ageing products

40. Preferring a Sunday walk to a lie in

I can lay claim to 27 of those, so where does that leave me ?!

I can't see the point of it really. No, I'm not middle aged - but then as questionnaires are notoriously simple to create in such a manner as to almost guarantee the outcome, it's blatantly obvious that this particular one falls under that description.

I must have had premature middle age as I could tick half of them in my early 40's

Let's try again... last post hasn't shown up.

I can claim 20 of them. If middle age is 53, I'm on my way to 106 - downhill.

It's only a bit of fun, Em - we're all verging on middle age going on 16 around here !

Hi QB,

The thing is there are quite a few questions which are irrelevant for me - so from my point of view as I can't complete all the questions there's not much point in it.

However - are far as the original question is concerned - heck no ..... I've seen loads of people who are heaps younger than me behaving far more 'aged' than I ever will.

Eighteen + two 'half and half' apply.

I'm 57 years old.

Nine of the 18 have applied since I was 18 years old.

One of the 18 (No 18 - Booked a Cruise) has applied since I was 33 years old.

23 of those for me. 'course I am middle aged, but the Newspapers would call me "elderly" and I get "concessions" when I book a theatre ticket, entrance to events etc. No bad thing then is it??

I'm 53, so I must now have hit middle age.

I counted 12 that are applicable to me

Number 15, about obsessive bird feeding made me laugh, I've just been out this morning and bought a bird feeding station for the garden!

Well, as it is as they say just a bit of fun - I had a look at it, and I really can't and mustn't comment on most of them. Hairy - well yes, in the right place and time my driving can be singularly hairy. Stiff - don't even go there (think outside the box). I don't talk about joints - I don't smoke them either.

As for playing board games etc ...... anyone for a quick round of strip Scrabble?

Some apply to me, some not. I must be middle aged, but I still feel and think I'm young! It's all a state of mind anyway - isn't it?

Indeed it is - if people want to think I'm getting old firstly they absolutely don't know me; and secondly ...... they'll get older one day.

Put me down for everything up tp No 21, then 34 to 38 inclusive. I think I noticed step changes in attitude and physical prowess at both 60 and more recently 70. I am off to play golf with my grandson tomorrow, normally I would have carried my clubs, but now a trolley is a must. I have been decorating since last week, and yesterday I did some serious sawing, carrying, cutting etc in the garden. Today I am suffering stiff joints; it does not auger well for the golf. :( :(
