Ray ...

Based on that information alone I'de say you live(d) in Mawdesley, if ' yes ' then type it into your sat-nav and all should be well.

Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

yup, second-hand food in the officers' mess. They told me to take my breakfast leftovers back to the servery instead of putting them in the slops bin

Shrivenham - RMCS?

That's the place. Run by the Cranfield Institute of Technology when I was there in the late 80s. First time, the accommodation was so bad, our CO ordered us into the Barrington Arms for three weeks. Second time, the army insisted we stay in the barracks. Third time, they put us in an empty married quarter. Last time, I was accommodated in the White Hart(?) in Highworth.

I've got family links with that part of the world.

My dad was born in Stanford in the Vale, and our branch of the family first appeared in Stanford in the 1730's. Other branches of the family are all over the Berkshire (now Oxfordshire)/Wiltshire area. A namesake of my dad was a farmer in Highworth from about 1850 to 1890.

Just for Sunday "dinner" and Monday "breakfast" - the soldiers' cookhouse was closed at the weekend. We relocated to the Barrington Arms Monday afternoon.

Yes very near Shrivenham - I worked in Lloyds Bank there for 8 years !.
I spent too long at the army base there
I have very happy memories of my childhood in Shrivenham - lived there between the ages of 10 and 15 in the early 70s. No family connections with RMCS, but my first date was to a college ball there - was it Robert's Hall?

Happy days! :relaxed:

There were two halls - one was Kitchener and the other was Roberts.

Now that we know where many members live - are we any nearer to deciding where our "get togethers" will be :?: :?:

Alan,

Let me give you a clue - I don't cook. Not being nasty or snotty, it's just better that I don't - for safety's sake. I have said so very many times that I always plan to succeed - qed I don't cook.

However, I know a man who can!

Bearing in mind that some people who might want to come live a fair distance from wherever it is held, they'd need to book overnight accommodation. London, although it has good road and rail links, may be too expensive.

Still, thanks to Tinks and Em, all the rest of us would have to worry about is transportation and accommodation... ;)
