Prefer Strictly, so when that starts I will watch that live, and fast forward through the ads and judges comments on X Factor - watching the whole 2 hour programme in about 40 minutes

My feelings about it are a tad less extreme than those expressed by DK, but I still have no intentions of being in the same room as any TV showing it.

I fail to understand why people watch shows like this and then actually phone in and vote. If they like music so much they should get off their backsides and support local singers/songwriters rather than line the pockets of Cowell & co. Its just karaoke !.

Why do you think I'm on here?
Nothing on TV worth watching and we've had more than our share of meals out over the last week and they don't have to be on a Saturday; why does a Saturday might hold so much attraction, to some, for a night out? Any night is preferable to Saturday night with all the drunks about.

There have been a couple of programs on BBC4 about Dusty Springfield - she never needed XFactor

It would appear that audience trending on these two popular shows divides along socio-economic lines.

Perceptions can be very misleading and are often way wide of the mark. X Factor appeals/does not appeal to all sectors of society.
I was taught to be cautious

Don't know about that, but I think the age of key presenters is probably more representative of viewing audience age ... Bruce Forsythe vs Ant & Dec (?)The Monocled Mutineer wrote:It would appear that audience trending on these two popular shows divides along socio-economic lines.

I watch it but do not vote. It is a platform for aspiring singers to showcase their talent. The bad ones are there purely for the amusement of joe public but I do not like the fact that such people are before the cameras at all. Not only does it give them the wrong idea of their talent it also ridicules them and they are there purely to pad the programme out. One female's performance last night brought tears to my eyes. She was phenomenal and definitely not karaoke. There is a certain snobbery about exclaiming one doesn't watch stuff like that because the programme is clearly popular. Regarding going out on Saturday night most people work through the week and don't like to go out on a work night so choose saturday because Sunday is a day they can have a lie in.

I used to watch it, then got bored, but did see it last night, only because nothing else was on that I fancied. I agree about the female singer she had a lovely voice.

I never watch X Factor. Hate the screaming, demented audience. Anyway, I am too busy watching Strictly. I wonder who Anton will be lumbered with this year?

Well you clearly don't watch!!! Ant & Dec? The presenter of X Factor is the lovely Dermot O'Leary.
I look at both shows. I don't watch much of the Saturday X Factor show, as it goes on for far too long, but tend to see the Sunday results show. You see all the highlights/lowlights, but it doesn't go on for ever.
I'm not sure what socio-economic group / age group the above puts me in.

We BOTH watch both shows, my husband enjoys them as much as I do! He has never felt watching such shows reflects badly on his intellect.

Re: It's Back !!
For those working, it is often considered the optimum evening, because there is no need to get up early the following morning, For myself it is also preferable to Friday night because I won't have just finished a week's work.wolfie wrote:Why do you think I'm on here?
