Autumn Arrives - Back to porridge for breakfast!
Freezing down here on the South Coast this morning. I had to shut the bathroom window for my shower, and put a long sleeved shirt on. Then a strange desire (Naughty naughty!!) for a hot bowl of porridge came over me.

I havnt been outside yet but I have noticed the temperature has certainly dropped indoors. At least it is a bright sunny day, Yesterday was wet and dark, so dreary after the scorcher the day before.
I don't think it is a North - South thing more to do with getting older. !!!

I was very good Jan, 5 dried apricots and a handful of cranberries in mine!
Doc has challenged me to get my cholesterol down. It went sky high after table companions told our waiters on Arcadia that I liked ice cream, and I got an extra helping every night for 4 weeks. Cant resist it when it is there!

There definitely is a nip in the air, I put my heating on for a couple of hours last night, it doesn't feel as nippy this morning but maybe that's because it isn't raining (yet) as it did for most of yesterday.

One of the few things I enjoy about winter. Porridge (made with skimmed milk, no water) with treacle (or golden syrup to those in the south) and sultanas.

My wife has porridge all year round always with some sort of fruit in it and honey on top.
She loves it, me I don't like it at all.

Fried bread and dripping only makes an appearance in the much lesser English Fry.Frank Manning wrote:Dear 'Cholesterol Ken' I dont even have moobs to fill a big girls blouse! Just a liberty bodice.![]()

Porridge with blueberries everyday throughout the year for me. Eat blueberries throughout the day as well. Just love them.

Re: Autumn Arrives - Back to porridge for breakfast!
Lorraine often has a bowl of porridge, any time of the year, me never touch the stuff.
On our recent trip to Wales had fully cooked breakfast every morming, at home only on a Saturday, the rest of the week large bowl of cornflakes.
As for the weather, yesterday sunny in the morning, one heavy downpour in the afternoon.
Today lovely blue sky, with a few white fluffy clouds, but definately a change in the temperature.
Although I am sat writing this in the conservatory, with the doors to the garden wide open, wearing jeans and a short sleeved shirt.

Silly me - I got confused when I read the opening post, and I thought ....... why are you wearing a long sleeved shirt in the shower? Do you usually just wear a short sleeved one in the shower then?
I switch to porridgey sort of stuff when the weather cools down, but my all time favourite warm brekky is the oatmeal they do onboard. If the porridgey stuff I have at home is 'plain flavour' (as opposed to the flavoured varieties which are lovely too) I have a bit of sweetener of some type and a little kn*b of buttery stuff.
I reckon I'll make the switch later on this month for sure - and I'm really looking forward to it. The other nice thing about the weather cooling down is crumpets or warm sausage rolls with soup for lunch.

My husband is the porridge eater in our house. I like Weetabix with hot milk. We were in Wales this week visiting relatives and the weather was gorgeous. Driving up to Liverpool for the boat yesterday the rain was torrential. I hate the motorway when it's like that, and the number of people driving without lights was infuriating not to say stupid. It's a bit gloomy here today. Is the summer over

I overheard some people discussing breakfast suitable for cooler days - and one person said that 'sop' (well that's what it sounded like) was nice. Anyone heard of 'sop'?

Where I come from Em, it's hot milk with bread dropped into it. Add sugar to taste if required.
I was taught to be cautious

Hmm - don't know if I fancy that; but oatmeal, porridge, or warm Alpen ... yes please.
The colder weather can have it's plus points, I'm looking forward to them.
