Dear Frank,
Microwave porridge for me every morning. That is unless I'm cruising, then it's the P&O Cruises breakfast, with a side order of corned beef hash on Sundays.
Regards

My winter breakfast is porridge with skimmed milk and a little sweetener, plus a glass of fresh orange juice.
My summer breakfast, which I am still enjoying, is one slice of fruit bread (toasted) with low fat spread, a fat free lemon yoghurt and a glass of fresh orange juice.

One of my special treats on board is fried bread with breakfast. Those lovely thick, triangular pieces of yumminess are irresistible -

Yes, the day time temperature dipped by about 10 degrees after a couple of months of always in the 20s+ and single figures at night reached for the first time, but little is conceded by me to the only real drawback of living in our wonderful nation, even to those of who live climatically in the more favoured parts of the UK - ie miserable weather soon circa during GMT time coupled with the unofficial Scot's veto on us moving to BST+1 for 10 months of the year and BST just for December & January. Perhaps the only good reason for Scotland to leave one of the three most successful unions in the western world (the other two being the US & the EU) will allow the remainder of the UK to move on its archaic time zone.
Only change I notice is to shut French and Conservatory doors (as well with the latter's internal doors) and generally to keep most internal doors shut. Also a need to put on a pair of enclosed slippers rather than pad about in bare feet in the late evening and early morning.
Central heating remains firmly turned off until circa end of October and likewise the electric blanket remains stored away in the divan draw.
Also, sock draw remains largely not accessed and the tweeds remain in their suit carriers.

Oh Derek, you were doing so well until you mentioned the electric blanket. Now all our northern friends will think you a southern softie!
I agree with you totally about our time zone. Moving the clocks forward by one hour all year would give us an extra hour of daylight to be enjoyed in the evenings which would be especially welcome at this time of year as well as during the spring.

Although a little more nip in the air, another lovely sunny day here in the cost del Clacton, blue skies and fluffy white clouds.
No need to close the conservatory doors yet.
No electric blanket here, a number of years ago now, one caused a fire at my fathers house, and although he and my step mother were rescued and were taken to my brothers house that night. The shock caused him to have a fatal heart attack during the night.
Ken we have already had a barbecue this year down South, with somebody holding a brolly over the cook, when we suddenly had a downpour

We have often had a BBQ under a parasol - saves someone having to hold the umbrella. Not this year though - yet - each and every one has been on a fabulous day.

Shredded Wheat with hot milk is nice too, but it scours my insides out, and porridge has the beta glucan anti choloesterol benefit. It feels like the end of summer today. We are having very heavy showers here, and I have had to run out and bring the towels from the washing line before they are wetter than when they went out.emjay45 wrote:My husband is the porridge eater in our house. I like Weetabix with hot milk. We were in Wales this week visiting relatives and the weather was gorgeous. Driving up to Liverpool for the boat yesterday the rain was torrential. I hate the motorway when it's like that, and the number of people driving without lights was infuriating not to say stupid. It's a bit gloomy here today. Is the summer over
You see; we southerners do other softie things as well as eating healthy breakfasts. Like washing, ironing, and cleaning as well as the odd bit of cooking. Now ehere's my pinnie?

Still sunny here down South on the costa del Clacton, just been to the nursery to buy a few plants, now waiting for our Daughter and one of our grand daughters to come and collect us, then we are off to a restaurant on the Sea front for dinner.Wina G wrote:Blimey, is this the second day that we have better weather 'oop North than down in the South, it's been lovely & sunny this weekend although a little colder than during the weekFrank Manning wrote:Shredded Wheat with hot milk is nice too, but it scours my insides out, and porridge has the beta glucan anti choloesterol benefit. There is only the width of the lower promenade (approx 20ft) which separates the outside eating area of the restaurant from the sea, the entrance to the restaurant about 50ft from the sea.
We drove along the sea front on our way back from the nursery, and there were a number of people enjoying themselves on the beach, also there were a number of coaches in the coach car park, which had brought the day trippers .

Cold here too - my OH wants the heating on!! I said no way not yet its only September put a jumper on. I did make him a big bowl of porridge tho this morning - made with skimmed milk and plenty of sugar (he doesn't like syrup/treacle or fruit on it). Nights are getting shorter, have to put the lights on and draw the curtains earlier each night - Autumn/Winter is on its way which means my cruise on Azura is getting closer and closer hurrah.

Frank, while it may be "brass monkeys" there - I suspect we have brass monkeys minus about ten degrees!
I used to live in Southampton, and the temperature difference between there and back up in 'uddersfield was often very marked...to say nothing of the different weather conditions.

Goodness, apart from the heated towel rails in the bathrooms, we haven't even thought about switching on the heating, nor draw the curtains, nor wear a jumper. We are still sitting in the conservatory every evening wearing T-shirts - until bed time - and only drop the blinds during the day when it's too sunny.
