Banning

Unread post by ChesterfieldJohn »

Evening,

I was talking to a friend of mine today about football and he mentioned that he had been banned from a football site.

It was a bit ironic really because it was the Wolves site that he was banned for calling them Dingles :)

He his a Burnley fan and they are also known as dingles.

I just wondered if anyone on here had been banned from any site, or knows someone on here who has?

Reasons would be nice as well.

No names of course.

Oh and I havent :)

Like you John I have never been banned from any forum, know a few names that have but not my place to say who or why

It doesn't sound as if your friend did anything wrong but the only "Dingles" I'm aware of are the ones in Emmerdale

I never knew that!

At Huddersfield, we have a chant for various opposition on the same lines... "Your mum's your dad, your dad's your mum, you're interbred - you Bradford scum. :D

Very classy R. I'm a bit outraged at the police threats to prosecute Spurs fans for chanting 'yid army'. Pathetic beyond words.
CJ, I will confess to being banned from the sickly sweet Crows Nest for innocently enquiring if Brad would like contributions towards his next utilities bill after he asked for donations towards his and admins drinks at a do.

Being "asked to leave" probably constitutes a ban in most people's book! ;)

I'm a member of the Huddersfield FB page, and it amazes me how many muppets from opposing teams (mainly our dirty neighbours down the M62) come on the page to hurl abuse. They obviously have little else in their sad lives. I would therefore understand a banning from a footballing site, as otherwise it can descend into abusive farce.

Some football fora are an utter waste of time as they become nothing more than a slanging match not only between opposing fans but also between fans from the same club.

I can't understand the logic of fans signing up to another club's site just to cause trouble and makes it a pity that genuine fans who just want to talk football have that choice taken away from them.

I do enjoy listening to some of the chants coming from the terraces which are often very amusing.

I must admit to sometimes venturing onto other teams' FB pages - though not to post abuse (or mocking if we've won). I like to get the opposition's take on a game - both before and after the event. It's a good way to read up on other teams' players. The only time I've ever posted was to comiserate with Charlton after we beat them in the cup recently and to compliment their performance and a couple of their players.

I would also add that some of the idiotic comments on these fora are beyond belief - some of the language is frankly appalling.

Romig
I think much of the problem is young kids who think it is clever and grown up to be objectionable behind the safety of a keyboard, or within the masses of a football crowd without having the social skills we would be looking for on an adult forum. They give football a bad name and everybody gets tarred with their brush. I'm all for a bit of harmless banter but a line is drawn when I read and hear some of the garbage thrown out.

I think you're right Foxy. Many of the muppets appear to be of school-age.

I have done the reverse - banned a site - ie resigned because I was so cross with the way it was run.

probably best I did that cos if I had stated my views on the site I would certainly have been banned!

Some years ago in a match against Dunfermline, at Ibrox Park (in the days when Gazza was playing for Rangers - and also having well publicised 'marital problems' ) Gazza was put clean through into a one on one against the Dunfermline keeper. Unfortunately for him, he made a mess of the shot, which was easily dealt with by the keeper.

At this point the Dunfermline fans started singing:

If ye cannae beat the goalie, beat yer wife...........!
