Our bean to cup coffee machine flashed a light or four to say that it needed de-scaling .. other than that zilch so it was a good job I touched the trusty old rabbit's foot this morning, eh

Not a disaster for me, just for fellow motorists. I passed my driving test on Friday 13th. (Though before the calendar had been invented of course).

No disasters, just had some quotes for servicing the car though. I could buy a good second hand car with the money they're asking.

Looks like you are having a run of bad luck like we had (computer/electric kettle and DVD player). So far it has been your wife's I Pad and now the washing machine - doesn't it usually go in threes?david63 wrote:OK then - so what disasters have befallen you?

We recently watched the Friday 13th film as our 8 year old had bought it for us at the school's summer fair (I know, what were they thinking!) and I'd forgotten just how scary it is. Kevin Bacon's death is particularly gruesome.

Re: Friday 13th
I don't know if this is a disaster, but this week we had visitors who we thought were staying for one night, but it seemed they were staying two. Of course I only catered for one night, and when we realised they weren't going home, we hurriedly booked a restaurant........ it seemed like a disaster, but on second thoughts, the meal out was excellent so, what the hell........
We paid though

Do you want to buy a good second hand car? We know of one that'll be (pretty) good when the welding's done. Complete with a two week guarantee. (Terms and conditions apply)

Re: Friday 13th
Well I had an interesting time. It started on Thursday 12th. I was in the sitting room doing a pile of ironing, when I went out to the hall there was one of those pesky red cards from the Post Office saying they had tried to deliver 3 parcels but I was out! I was not out and at no time did the bell or the knocker go. I opened the front door in time to see the PO van driving off! I was angry! Usually I have arranged via the PO website to have a parcel redelivered but as we were going away for the weekend I wanted one of the parcels. So I decided to go to the sorting office on Friday about 10.30am. As I went to the car it started raining - but at least I had an umbrella.
At the sorting office (notice on the card - there is no customer parking) I did manage to find somewhere to park. Went into the office and felt lucky as there was no-one else there. Did the whole producing identity thing then one parcel was produced. About 5 minutes later a second one appeared. By this time there was quite a queue building. Why did I feel guilty when it was the PO making the others wait? Then the man reappeared - was it possible the parcel was addressed to someone else - no. I eventually went and sat down. Another PO person appeared so at least the queue was being dealt with. Eventually the original guy came back and said they couldn't find it - perhaps it had fallen down the side of the postman's bag! Would I like to come back later in the afternoon when our postman would have returned to the office? No I wouldn't. So they took my mobile number and said they would call and let me know.
It was still raining. As I got to the end of the road where the sorting office is I needed to turn right - but there was a huge queue of traffic so I turned left and had a longer journey home. When I got back to our village I parked the car intending to firstly pick up our paper which hadn't been delivered and pay the delivery charge and then secondly go to the chemist to pick up a prescription. When I got to the newspaper shop police tape was across the entrance - there had been a break in during the night - so that was why no paper. So next to the chemist. Got one item but the one I really wanted wasn't there as the manufacturer has apparently stopped making it so the chemist said I would need to go back to my GP and ask for an alternative - I nearly said to her do you know how long I waited for the last appointment? ( I did get a call from the sorting office later and they had found the parcel and I arranged for it to be redelivered next week.)
So then I went home and later on we drove to Dorset in the pouring rain! I hasten to add that Saturday was a vast improvement!

There you go. Clear proof that the superstition about Friday 13th being unlucky is nonsense!!!!

Can't think of anything untoward happening on Friday 13th. I think of it as a lucky day - it was on a Friday 13th that I passed my driving test at the third attempt

Oh Carole. What a miserable day you had. I see you don't live in Gloucestershire, but, strangely there is no parking at our sorting office either. Why doesn't the Post Office want us to collect our parcels?

Re: Friday 13th
Our sorting office is on a trading estate so no problem parking
what does amaze me though is how can they "lose" parcels ..this has happened to me twice
oh and both times I was in and the postie definitely didn't ring the bell or knock

Re: Friday 13th
I've never understood superstition - especially this thing about a "lucky rabbit's foot". Why is carrying a rabbit's foot considered to be lucky? The rabbit had four - fat lot of good it did him.....
