A different point of view!

Unread post by howard18 »

The following snippit was taken from Cruise.com and refers to a customer review on the Costa Concordia circa late 2008.

This was about our twelfth cruise with Costa and although nothing went wrong we did not enjoy it as much as many of the others. Maybe we are out Costered and need to spend more cruises with Cunard and Celebrity our other favourite cruise lines. We have favoured Costa because we like their Eastern Med itineraries and the fact they start from either Venice or Savona which avoids the Bay of Biscay trek. In addition we like the fact that they are multi national and not like P&0 i.e. full of fellow Brits focusing on the things that most interest them - having to pay tips, the types of beer available, where to smoke, the high costs of organised trips, the afternoon bingo sessions and whether you can bring your own alcohol on board. Just what you want to hear every evening at dinner !!!

Surely it can't be all that bad

Hi Howard,

We’ve enjoyed three cruises to date, two of which have been with P&O and can’t recall any where the conversation revolved around the topic’s mentioned by this cruise.com reviewer.

If the truth be known this persons table guests probably got fed up with the Bay of Biscay stories and decided to trek off in a different direction of conversation...which can be quite annoying when all you want to do is tall about the thing that interest you.

Regards

Keith

We have been on something like 35 to 40 Cruises / Coaching tours as a combined total, approx one third with British passengers only and two thirds with International English speaking passengers.

Our experiences indicate that you are far more likely to encounter some saddo who does nothing but complain about everything when booking such a holiday with Brits only. Other Nationals seem better equipped to discuss a problem rather than to just moan about it.

As the good folk from Oz will tell you ... when the plane arrives from Heathrow the engines will stop but the whining continues.

The Americans have a similar view of us Brits

that is one thing that is not a plus point for Pando, far too parochial and far too dated

When we missed Bora Bora on this year's World Cruise, it was the good folk from Oz who complained the most. We were given £100 OBC each but they still started a petition asking for more compensation

Certainly applied to Arcadia's paintwork when we were berthed alongside her in Tallin in July.
But back on topic I do agree, for once, with DK there are far too many Brits on P&O, however having said that there are too many Brits on all the Southampton sailings.

Exactly ... they took positive action instead of doing nothing bar moaning about it for weeks on end

Around the world the Brits have a reputation for their moaning ... as one American said to me "you can't please all the people all the time but you can never please a Brit any of the time"

Having said that I think you will find that all nationalities have a reputation for something - the Aussies for not tipping, the Germans for sunbed hogging, the French - well the list is too long....

Sorry I only heard the Aussies moaning. No other nationality including the Brits who took it on the chin as we did. Personally I haven't com e across any moaners on my cruises perhaps I've been lucky. Although my husband would tell you he has ME.
