Pork Pie HELP!!

Unread post by Onelife »

I woke up this morning thinking I’m going to bake a pork pie...reason being my wife bought me a pork pie tin for Christmas...which when you think about it takes a little more thought than my normal Christmas present (Underpants)

Anyway to cut a long story short I’m now at the stage of waiting for the pie to cool before pouring jelly into said pie...now here’s the problem I only have vegetable stock cubes in which to make the Gelatine jelly...can anyone advise me if I would be better off going out and buying beef stock cubes or do you think vegetable stock cubes will be ok?

Thanks in anticipation

Keith

Pork pies are disgusting, especially the jelly bits! Shouldn't you use a pork stock cube though?

The traditional recipe requires for the jelly

1 pig's trotter
5 litres water
15g gelatine

Oink :wtf:

Hi Hk

According to the recipe I should have boiled pork bones over night but as I didn’t think about making one till this morning that’s not going to help now. I’ll take your advice and nip out and get some pork stock cubes...I’ll let you know how good it tastes later.

Best wishes

Keith

Onelife.

Put your pinny away and forget all about this pie baking lark. It'll cost a small fortune, never look remotely like the shop one's and taste cr*p.

Get yourself down the bakers or supermarket and get a large Melton Mowbray pork pie......they're the best

Plus, if by some miracle it turns out half edible you could end up doing ALL the cooking. Now that's just letting the male side down isn't it.

Just buy one Keith, put it in the pie pan and pretend you've made it. She'll never know and, of course, we would never tell her.

I’ve just popped round to our local store to find they don’t stock pork stock cubes... they didn’t sell ham either so I’ve gone for chicken instead...

Stephen

Are you trying to depress me? This pie has already cost me £6 and now you’re telling me it’ll taste like horse Sh*t...thanks Mate!!

Hi OBF

I did the same kind of thing with my wife’s engagement ring, unfortunately it turned green after a few weeks and she’s never let me forget that...I dread to think what she would do with the pork pie if she found out I’d wasted another 6 quid

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaay lad. And probably not even pigs either.

The problem with all this Jamie Oliver Malarkey is, it all looks so easy when they're doing it on the telly. All the five hundred ingredients are to hand, everything is laid out like a surgeons operating tray and it all turns out wonderful.

A different kettle of fish, or pork pie in your case). The cost of ingredients could settle the national debt, mess everywhere, stress and swearing because nothing is going right, pet food to substitute the ingredients you forgot to get, and to top it all it'll finish up looking more like a cremated pork chop than a pork pie. Who needs the hassle :!:

Am I helping at all

Hi Jacknian

Thanks for your encouragement....Oh and don’t worry about Stephen he’s had it in for me ever since I reported him for sexual harassment aboard adonia

I tend to steer clear of cakes as I can be a little heavy handed when it comes to measuring quantities... I do however enjoy cooking Chinese food and would do more if it wasn’t for the time it takes to prepare the dishes.

Regards

Keith

Sue's step uncle and her aunt had a pork butchers and they used to make beautiful pork pies. Sue says you definitely need to boil up trotters ears bones etc with gelatine to get the jelly to set. I love pork pie but sadly the Doc has forbidden them due to my cholesterol problems.

Any way enjoy them matey, I for one am jealous!!

Thanks Jo/Frank

I don’t think you can beat good wholesome home cooking even if in my case I could have bought 3 pork pies (only two if I got them from M&S) :) for the price of the one I made.

Anyway, "All’s well that ends well".
