Hotels with parking in southampton

Has anyone stayed at Chilworth Manor on their park and cruise package.

How was it?

What were the rooms like?
Food?
How did the transfers to and from Southampton go?

We only ever trust C & PS with our vehicles - and that means we know we have got to the terminal ok, and don't have to put transfers into the hands of other people.

However, we have stayed at the Chilworth Manor. The room was small, the bed was horrid, the bathroom could have done with a refit - the food was ok, but overpriced. It is not a compact building, and if you have mobility issues or want to bring your luggage in with you, maybe that's not the best idea. The carpark was used by various other customers - including conference people and sportsclub people - so vehicles were coming and going all the time. We weren't able to get parking right by the main building, and had a bit of a walk which is ok in the dry, but not when it is raining a lot.

For us once was enough - if you see what I mean.

Holiday Inn on Herbert Walker Avenue do a cruise and stay package with a transfer to the terminal.

Novotel, I think, also does a cruise and stay deal.

Have decided to stay in Southampton instead and park with CPS.

Sounds like a great plan - we like to stay 'in town' because if we don't like the nosh in the hotel restaurant there are just so many places to go and get something suitable to eat.

My husband says that is the plus point! The minus point of staying 'in town' - according to him - is that I can drag him around shops late afternoon (on the excuse that it is exercise and can avoid the rain)

We had a good experience at Chilworth, but haven't used their parking package. Wouldn't consider parking at Holiday Inn or Novotel because their car parks are not secure. We normally book early enough to get free CPS parking, but if we didn't would use the Hilton, which we've stayed at and had good experiences at, and which offers stay and park deal. They park the cars nose to tail like CPS so any thief would have to nick the lot to get one!

Unfortunately some well almost all reviews on trip advisor for all the hotels in Southampton are in the negative. Cant understand in these difficult times why hotels aren't going all out to impress and get repeat business.

We've used the Hilton quite a few times. The rooms are ok; we haven't used the parking whllst on a cruise option, but when we stay there overnight we are happy to leave our car parked close to the main front entrance.

The food is ok - the only thing which was a disappointment was a steak pie because it was obvious that the pastry was cooked separately to the dish with the meat and sauce in it, and consequently the pastry was so 'puffy' that it disintegrated when a fork got anywhere near it.

However, for us a negative point was that it felt too far to walk to go to an alternative place to eat, and we just didn't want to get back in the car just for a meal after a day of travelling.

We used the Hilton on a cruise and stay deal last year. The only reason we used them was because the Boat Show was on and we couldn't get anywhere in town with parking. Didn't have dinner there, as I'd stayed before with work and wasn't prepared to pay Hilton prices out of my own pocket. We drove to a pub. As Em says, you can't realistically walk anywhere else.

Had a couple of drinks after returning from dinner. Beer was reasonably priced for a Hilton with a captive audience, but the wine was rather expensive, though admittedly very nice.

Breakfast on the morning we were there was a bit poor compared to the other Hiltons I've stayed in, including my previous stay at the Southampton one. Maybe it was because we breakfasted after 08:30?

Parking worked well. They kept our keys so that they could move the car within the hotel site. As it was, they didn't, but we did park round the back.

Transfers to the terminal were very well organised. West Quay taxi turned up on time, and the return trip was equally punctual after putting the call in that we were off the ship.

We would only use the Hilton again if we couldn't get into town (have previously used the Star and the Dolphin). The main downside for us is that it is too far out to walk to alternative dining and watering holes. Oh, and on embarkation morning we do like to wander down towards the terminals to look at the ships!

We've used the Hilton several times with the stay and park package, in fact I've just booked it again for our next cruise, the parking is very secure which is a bonus.

I don't rate the food at all and we usually go out to eat although the "breakfast" is very good.

We've stayed at various hotels in Southampton and they are all much of a muchness but as long as they are clean and reasonably comfortable they are ok for one night.

We used the Holiday Inn park and stay, when we were on a 17 day cruise, and had no problems. I understand since our stay they have made the parking even more secure.
Although the Holiday Inn is right next to Dock gate 8, which was the dock we were embarking/disembarking from, the hotel laid on a taxi to take us to the check in area in the morning.

We never had an evening meal there, as we always go to a small steakhouse we like in Southampton, pre cruise, almost opposite the Mayflower theatre.

Could not fault the breakfast.

We had a room at the rear of the hotel, it was great to wake up in the morning and see our ship, RCI Independant Of The Seas, towering above the dock. The hotel is also a short walk from Mayflower park, where we could view the ship even more closely.

Our breakfast at the Hilton at Chilworth was a disgrace. Tea and coffee should have been served to the table but it was in pump flasks, one was empty and the other luke warm. The choice of hot items was poor and we walked out.

We've never had a bad breakfast at the Hilton, always plenty of choice hot/cold and normally they bring you a pot of tea/coffee, I wonder if they had staffing problems, no excuse of course but we've found the DeVere to be very hit and miss too.

Looking on the bright side though, if you are in a hotel in Southampton you are very close to embarking the ship

We normally go to either the Cowherds or the Chilworth arms but would like to try somewhere different.

Last time we were in Southampton, (July) we ate at The Olive Tree on Oxford Street.

Thanks Jo. We have been to the Chilworth Arms a few times, but it can be quite pricey.
