Do you think someone from P&O reads this forum?
Oddly I was about to post this and then saw Arcadialovers comment on David's thread. When I worked in the Civil Service (many moons ago), I worked in several different Departments. In those days, one person was employed for the sole purpose of reading all the local and national newspapers. If anything was mentioned about that particular Department it was cut out and stuck in a book. I presume it was to keep a record and to find out what was being told to the Nation about that Department. I sometimes wonder if someone in P&O has the job of reading newspapers and scouring the web including any forums in order to give feedback to the directors.
Like Arcadialover I hope they do.

Given the number of responses to the "What don't they do anymore" thread, one would hope that, if P&O are reading this forum, someone will take note and do something about it!

I would be very surprised if they didn't - along with all of the other cruise fora and FB groups/pages.
(There is nobody from P&O that I know of as being a member of this forum - but that is not to say that there isn't)

They might read it but don't seem to action what we say, surely we can't all be wrong and P&O right.

I don't think that it is necessarily a case of "us" being right and "them" being wrong.arcadialover wrote:They might read it but don't seem to action what we say, surely we can't all be wrong and P&O right.
P&O, like all other cruise lines, will look at the "big picture". Take this forum - it has 900 members of which there are probably 30 - 40 active members, and all other fora will be at about the same level (and some will be the same members). Put that into context of P&O having something in the region of 200k passengers a year then in effect we are a very small voice in the wilderness.
I have no idea of the overall level of unrest/dissatisfaction with P&O but I am sure that senior management have that information and will act accordingly (as long as it is in line with their American overlords). My guess would be that the vast majority of passengers, whilst not necessarily totally happy with the situation, do not complain therefore the overall level of complaints is relatively low in percentage terms, and possibly within industry targets.

Of course they read this forum along with comments on Facebook, Twitter etc etc. Maybe the new management could learn a thing or two or three by reading the comments.

Whether they do I have no idea but if I were in charge of P&O I'd like to know what people were saying on forums no matter how small a percentage of customers were commenting.royalprincess wrote:Of course they read this forum along with comments on Facebook, Twitter etc etc. Maybe the new management could learn a thing or two or three by reading the comments.

THe problem with cruise forums is that they are always populated by enthusiasts, and enthusiasts are not typical customers. Enthusiasts tend to a critical, often nostalgic, view and are usually most critical of change.
Since change is what all the major lines are trying to introduce in making cruising a mass-market holiday, it follows that they will have problems if they gave too much weight to enthusiasts' opinions. There is also the fact, which they understand all too well, that enthusiasts, even if they have gripes, tend to return anyway.

You are absolutely right there mate.
With the advent of these megaships, if the cruise lines solely relied on their core customers, they would soon go broke.
In the years that I've been cruising, there have been many subtle changes. That doesn't make it any better or worse, just a bit different.
The beauty of this industry is the amount of choice available. If one company doesn't suit, then another probably will.
What still makes me chuckle is how some can constantly berate a particular company but then still book a holiday with them.
Most forums and facebook etc are really just good public platforms for folk to have a good old whinge.
I'm reasonably sure that the cruise companies do not take an awful lot of notice and certainly wouldn't form policy on them.

answering the Op's question
probably only for it's comedy value and to thank God it closed the forum
none of the forum's or FB pages are a good advert for Pando
their own FB page is either full of pictures of ships or people moaning
the unofficial pages are a handful of people keeping them going and posting port pictures and or moaning
at least on here there isn't too much moaning

Dead easy - press the Quote button and remove the bits you don't want.
If you want to break it down into chunks, copy and paste the [ / quote ] from the end of the quote to the end of the bit you want to break off, enter your comments, then copy and paste the [ quote="username" ] from the start of the quote to the start of the next section.

No subliminal message, Em, it's what he does almost every waking moment. I believe he's training for the World Scanning Championships

It is a shame that the old forum closed - at least it was one place where everyone could congregate. Now we have a lot of fragmentation with this and that forums and pages for people to chat on. To my mind a forum is better than Facebook because posts drop quickly off the page on Facebook. In any case I think every vehicle for chat becomes stale, same people chatting, threads resurrected etc. I can't imagine anyone having a job where they are sitting scanning every avenue for people talking about P&O.

Re: Do you think someone from P&O reads this forum?
All it is, Emjay, is that we have a shed-load of old documents that had to be scanned and it recently came to light that a couple of hundred files got overlooked. We can't go back to the people who did the scanning (partly because I know they sold the scanner, and partly because they've moved on to other projects), so I'm working my way through them. I've actually completed the overlooked files, but we recently found a large box of files that we didn't previously know existed. So I've got to scan those, too, and incorporate them into the existing files. And, other tasks permitting, I spend no more than half a day on it.emjay45 wrote:Is that an actual job 'Scanning'. Thanks Alan now I understand. I thought your actual job was scanning.
Mo
I couldn't believe when I joined the Civil Service that someone was employed simply to read the newspapers. I won't say which Department it was but in one, the man (of course) who's job it was generally finished his 'work' by midday and literally had the afternoon doing nothing. Nice work if you can get it.
I'm sure things have changed now.

Think you've misunderstood Alan - the original post asked if we thought that someone from P&O reads this forum ...... I couldn't imagine that anyone employed by P&O has a dedicated role to searching out references to P&O on any forum/FB page etc.Silver_Shiney wrote:No Mo, my actual job is processing charitable donations and family history research.

I was talking to the other Mo, Mo!
Reverting to the OP, it wouldn't surprise me if someone was searching out references - a company I once worked for employed an agency to do just that, and every so often, we'd be sent copies of newspaper/magazine articles referring to our company.
