The last 2 job interviews I have had were as a resulted of me being head hunted by agencies and the meetings were held over a meal out in a nice bistro/bar
when you reach a certain level, you dont have panel interviews and silly apptitude tests and dress like a school kid in a uniform
you are head hunted and have a civilised meeting

honestly it is the 21st century not he 1950's

....and presumably you dressed appropriately for the occasion. For the record I am NOT criticising your dress sense or questioning your right not to dress up, and participate in formal nights on a ship or elsewhere. What I would question is the implied insult those who do choose to follow convention by using terms such as 'obedient sheep' and describing opinions contrary to yours as 'stupid'.
That said, this is all a storm in a teacup, with assumptions being made on both sides.

What price tolerance and respect?

At least you can, unlike some, apologise .... accepted from me.

Being head hunted has long been the way but it can make one a tad big headed and arrogant, don't ask, but make the most of it as you are rapidly approaching the age and stage when you out grow your value.

How to kill a discussion - be vociferous, insulting, aggressive and bombastic. Yep, guaranteed to work every time.

Thanks for that Moby

the head hunting thing is a right laugh, I get a 2 or 3 a year asking for a meeting , usually over lunch...expenses dontacha know... and it usually goes nowhere, but worth keeping in touch.
at first I was flattered and thought "oooh get me the special one", then you quickly realise it is all a bit silly ,as at some point you end up having a formal interview, the plus point is that if you are contacted, you are pretty much on a short, shortlist.
I reckon I have got another 4 years to make the last big move, but I doubt I will change companies as I am very happy where I am

Quite right too Stephen! I would never cut the grass without a jacket and tie, so I insist that the gardener always wears them. ( Nothing else mind!! Gives the locals something to think about). Although I have a sneaky suspicion that he borrows the tie from the butler. Penguin suit is a bit over the top for this neck of the woods. I keep mine for Hawaain night on the Arcadia.

You may joke, but many years ago a section head in a research department where I worked retired. A few months later he was seen digging his garden in one of his business suits. He said that he had so many of them it was the only use he could think of now that he no longer needed them.

QB I never dreamed that wearing a penguin suit on Hawaian night might be dangerous! But then I s'pose seeing some of the posts on this subject.........hang on a minute, I see what you mean......no danger, our gardener is not that well endowed, and we never let the grass grow that long.
