How about gentleman's braces standing in the complicated dress code

I prefer them to a belt and have an interesting collection purchased whilst enjoying the USA

I have had several raised eyebrows/comments in various UK establishments, but never in a 'Spoons emporium

MoB

Yankee braces are to die for, not only are they oh so colourful widees

Extremely high quality and amazingly inexpensive

I had a birthday box from P C Penny for peanuts, just cuz I purchased a well tailored three piece suit, still looks good

I dress to the left - just that little extra cloth to keep "things" in place

BTW Have you had snow yet in the hinterland of North Dorset ?

Lubooo lots

You can wear whatever braces you like because they should never be seen. Normally they would be covered by the waistcoat. A belt is strictly a no-no as indeed are belt loops.

Yes, it's all a load of Hogwarts.

if ones DJ is tailored and not some cheap of the peg job from M&S or Matalan, you don't need braces or a belt
as it fits properly

That depends on one's hips. Or lack of them.

Not strictly true.

If you have a tailored evening suit with "proper" dress trousers then you will HAVE to wear braces

They should come up to your belly button.
