I loathe colds, and they are very difficult to avoid. When I was at the Uni, I used to take Dettol Wipes, and an anti virus spray (Boots) with me, and spray the phones I used, the mouse, the keyboards, my room door handle, and the desk top, every time I enterred or left, and when a student came in with a runny nose...80% of them between October and April....I told them to sit a far away as possible Similar precautions when visiting shops and supermarket. Wash hands regularly, dont put your hands anywhere near your face, eat a couple of oranges a day, and if you do cop one, stuff your face with oranges because both Sue and I swear that Vit C shortens the cold. We are also convinced that stress reduces immunity, and Sue says the virus is there all the time and when we get really stressy situations it gets a hold.
I still used to get one a year...more if I went on Aurora or Arcadia, but thats another topic.
Talking about Aurora ... we were sitting in Aurora's theatre earlier this month and one of the group of young ladies on a Hen Night type celebration, assumed, who was sitting directly behind me sneezed all over me SIX times in rapid succession.
On our flight back from New Zealand in Dec 2010 the young lady sitting next to R had a horrendous cold, don't know if it was a coincidence but he was only back at work for a couple of days when he came down with the flu (the real thing not man flu!).
He was really ill for a couple of weeks & was washed out with no energy for a couple more, since then he has gone for a flu jab in October every year (he doesn't get it free)

Aircraft are renowned for spreading these things because they recirculate the air.

Yes Wina, I believe Northern flu is allot weaker and easier to catch than the Southern Ebola type we get, but we still manage to drag our ar*se out of bed to sign on
There is no cure for a cold, but you never catch the same one twice because the virus mutates frequently. However, doctors say that with the best medicines and treatment they can cure a cold in two weeks. Left to itself it would take a fortnight.
Stress does reduce your immunity, it stimulates the production of cortisol has all sorts of implications, just google chronic stress and cortisol.
Get well soon Graham.
On our last cruise I came down with the 'cough'. I have asthma so I ended up in the medical centre on the nebuliser for a few days. Towards the end of the cruise I was sitting near a rather large Australian woman on the excursion bus, she was coughing her insides out. I asked her if she'd seen the doctor and she told me she used to be a nurse and not to worry it wasn't contagious. Then five minutes later she told me she was on antibiotics anyway, so it obviously was contagious. My heart sank as I knew I'd get the 'cough' again and sure enough I did.

She obviously knew the difference between 'contagious' and 'infectious'.

Popped into Boots for a suggestion that may ease my bleedy cold
The pharmacist suggested a profusion of cures at a price :
Budgen's next door had a promotion that seemed to have worked
A bottle of Bells at a mere £12
My next question how do I get rid of a throbbing headache
Enjoy your Sunday dear friends
Graham
Coughs and Colds seem to have started early this year Mr DQ had "man flu" a couple of weeks ago sods law I was going to get it ( just a common cold though )
All the usual remedies were having no effect so I popped into Tesco's pharmacy to ask if they could recommend something and strangely enough they said Bells Graham but the Bells linctus variety a snip at £1.30 and it certainly worked
