Christmas Dinner

Unread post by Stephen »

Way too early I know to really be talking about Christmas. But the good lady and I were chatting about Christmas day dinner. We are going to be on our own this year, which suits us, so we have decided on either a Chinese or Curry for Christmas day for something different. Well that's the plan at the moment, it could all change.

When you think about it, you have the equivalent to a Christmas dinner most weekends, just with a few less trimmings, so no great treat really when it comes to Christmas. That's the way I see it anyway.

What about the rest of you. Sticking with tradition or having a change.

Stephen, having Chinese or curry on Christmas day is just plain wrong. It's people like you with your weirdo ways that drove me out of Essex. Get a turkey and behave yourself. :D

Doesn't look like HK will be inviting herself to your house for Christmas dinner Stephen. Or was that the plan ;)

Think we may be hosting Xmas dinner this year, we haven't decided if it'll be traditional or just a buffet as it will probably be at 5 'ish & there are too many to sit everyone around the table together ... could always sit the children in the garage ;) :?

Emjay. I have been cmpletely underwhelmed by the offers of dinner on Christmas day. Still, Degsy will be back soon and he's in with a chance as long as he keeps off the karaoke machine.

It would be wise to keep well clear of HK at Christmas dinner. She regularly poisons her dinner guests to the point of vomitting.

Hi Stephen,

The only thing that won’t be traditional this year will be the absence of a turkey...don’t like the meat...don’t like the smell ...and I don’t like the price.

Happy Christmas

Keith

When I was a boy we had a chicken for Christmas dinner. It was the only time during the year that we had chicken.

Traditional for us.

For years we alternated between Christmas dinner at my parents one year then the in laws the next. Then three years ago we decided to do our own just for the three of us and loved it. At the risk of sounding a little like Degsey arrangements are well on the way with a fine selection of drinks already laid down for the grand event. We just have to decide on a name for the turkey, 2011 was Tina, 2012 was Trevor...2013...Tracey perhaps?!!

I wasn't expecting to host Christmas Dinner this year but it looks as though I may be after all. My resolution is not to feel that I have to have all the extras. It is just a Roast Dinner. Do I really need to add - two different types of stuffing, bread sauce, sausages wrapped in bacon, cranberry sauce, three different vegetables etc? No I don't think so. I would have to have one stuffing and bread sauce - my husband could not do without bread sauce - well he could but I'd never hear the last of it - and the price of a good organic free-range Turkey! Well I almost feel I would have to take out a mortgage. Then there's pudding. Previously there has been Christmas Pudding (either National Trust or M&S), custard, brandy cream and then something like oranges in caramel for those who don't like Christmas Pudding plus ice cream for children. This year I resolve to cut down! Definitely!

Thanks Carol, that's lovely of you. I don't mind if you only do one stuffing but I do like pigs in blankets. What time do you want us?

I think there will just be four of us, though that might change to more nearer the time. Two are vegetarian( myself included) so I shall do a turkey roast from M&S for the carnivores, the surplus being eaten on boxing day when the whole family descend on us, and our eldest daughter and I will have a very nice nut roast. I do all the trimmings - it wouldn't be christmas otherwise!

It's the one meal I really enjoy going over the top for.

I am hosting christmas dinner this year. We are having a turkey crown from M&S and one of their joints of beef with all the trimmings. haven't decided what to do for starter or pudding yet as M&S haven't released their xmas food.
