Driver Genius Programme
On occasions I get these messages asking for permission for different programmes to be put on my computer. None of them explain what the programme is supposed to do. The latest is a Driver Genius Programme - I've looked on Google and it seems authentic - what do you computer people think? I wish there was some explanation of these things that ask for permission to be downloaded.

On the surface it sounds like a program that trots round your system to check out the driver levels ( versions ) that are installed.
Personally I would only ' think ' of doing so if the PC Mag I was reading explained then recommended it.

Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Re: Driver Genius Programme
Not one that I have encountered but with other such programs I would steer well clear. They will either check to see if all your drivers are up to date (any decent software will do that automatically if set to check for updates) and if not suggest that you download the latest ones. This may have the effect of disabling some or all of your computer. The other thing that I have seen is that they want you to either pay to install the "full" version or pay to download the latest drivers (which are free anyway)
The maxim - "if it 'aint bust then why fix it", seems appropriate in this case.
As a general rule I would never install anything that just pops up and says "Install me" as in 99.9% of cases they will cause problems and may be difficult to remove.

As David says, if this has appeared out of the blue, don't install it. If you'd been searching for something of that nature and it was top of the Google listings, then fair enough, 'cos you sought it out but please don't ever install something that approached you - treat it with the same contempt as an unsolicited phone call or spam.

Although not a utility to keep drivers up to date, Secunia PSI is handy for checking for software updates.
