Non-holiday bucket list

Unread post by Kendhni »

To complement the holiday bucket list thread ...
what non-holiday items do you have on your bucket list?

I would like to visit Auschwitz and also take a battlefields tour, particularly the Somme and Ypres. I imagine it would be very upsetting but it is something I really hope to do.

The Belgium sites can be done in a day trip from the South of England.

To stop working within the next 2 - 3 years and have a long and happy retirement, with my husband.

That's all really

I would love to visit Cape Canaveral when there is a launch on.

On retirement Gill, go for it, we planned to retire when I became 60, managed it a month off my 61st. Never looked back.
Regards

Peter

I was over there some years back when there was a launch imminent and when we went to Cape Kennedy (it changed from Canaveral many years ago) there was quite a buzz especially when you saw the shuttle being moved.

The problem with seeing a launch is that it normally takes place early in a morning and the traffic, certainly in those days, was horrendous. Also it is somewhat unpredictable as the decision on when to launch is dependant on the weather - so can could end up spending several days going backwards and forewards and at the end of it see nothing.

We're hoping to do that on 18 November, but we'll have to drive up from Clermont first and my DIL isn't known for her ability to get out of bed early in the morning!

HKP. We have done both and would really recommend them. The atmosphere at Auschwitz/Birkenau was very unsettling, but we're so glad we went.

We will visit Auschwitz in 2014, have already been to the Somme and Ypres plus a few other places like Arras and Verdun ... very moving and an important part of our history of course.

In Ypres for example we found a church and within it a plaque which celebrated the School that I went to insomuch that so many of the teachers and pupils had participated and died during the period.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Moby, I would also suggest you visit the salt mine that's in the same(ish) area of Poland. Fascinating!
